Norwegian Television
Television in Norway was Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1954, but the first television program was only shown in 1958, and regular broadcasts did not start until 1960. Like Denmark, Norway had only one television channel until the 1980s. Some 40% of the population have Cable television, cable TV, and 30% have Satellite television, satellite TV. Another 30% have terrestrial television only. In Norway, all advertising containing political messages and advertising aimed at children are prohibited. The Eurovision Song Contest 1996 was the 41st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 18 May 1996 at the in Oslo, Norway. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (NRK) and presented by Norwegian journalist and television presenter Ingvild Bryn and Norwegian singer Morten Harket, the contest was held in Norway following the country's victory at the with the song "" by Secret Garden. Thirty countries submitted entries to the contest, with a non-public, audio-only qualifying round held two months before the final to reduce the number of participants from 30 to 23. The entries from , , , , , and were subsequently eliminated, which resulted in Germany being absent from the contest for the first time. Oslo Spektrum is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in east central Oslo, Norway that opened in December 1990. It is currently owned and operated by Norges Varemesse. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. The Voice (Eimear Quinn Song)
"The Voice" is a song by Irish singer Eimear Quinn that was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, representing . The music was composed, and the lyrics were written, by Brendan Graham, who had also written and composed "Rock 'n' Roll Kids", the Irish winner from the 1994 contest. The victory, which was Ireland's fourth in five years, was their seventh (and to date last) contest victory, which remains a record for the most contests won by a single country. History Brendan Graham had originally submitted "The Voice" for consideration to represent Ireland in Eurovision 1996 via a recording made by the neo-traditional Celtic band Dervish. Eimear Quinn
Eimear Mary Rose Quinn (; ga, Eimear Ní Chuinn, ) is an Irish singer and composer. She is best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "The Voice". Since then she has toured and performed extensively internationally and has released four albums of her work, the most recent being ''Ériu'', recorded with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and released in 2020. Musical career Eimear Quinn was born in Dublin, Ireland and joined her first choir at four years of age. At fifteen she started formal vocal training under the tutelage of Jody Beggan. She graduated with a degree in Music from National University of Ireland Maynooth. While studying for her degree she developed an interest in early music and was a founder member of the ensemble Zefiro. In 1995 she joined the choir Anúna. Jahn Teigen
Jahn Teigen (27 September 1949 – 24 February 2020) was a Norwegian singer, musician and comedian. He represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest three times, in 1978, 1982 and 1983, His given name was Jan; he added the silent H later. From October 2006 until his death in February 2020, he resided in Sweden. Biography Popol Vuh Jahn Teigen was born in Tønsberg. He started his career in the late 1960s when he released a few singles and one album with Enemies. However, his commercial breakthrough did not come until the early 1970s as the lead singer of the 6-member rock band Popol Vuh. They released three successful albums, the first self-titled in 1973. Their most popular album was released in 1976, called ''Stolen From Time'', but this time under their new name Popol Ace, to avoid confusion with the German rock band with the same name that also was popular in the 1970s. Odd Einar Nordheim (born February 5, 1972, in Årdal) is a Norwegian musician and singer. He won the music talent competition ''Stjerner i sikte'' in 1996. He has released two albums under the name "OdD", ''Mind Your Head'' in 2001 and ''Not All Birds Fly with Ease'' in 2005. He was nominated for best pop solo performer under Spellemannprisen 2001. His musical inspirations are Otis Redding, Billie Holiday, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, The Police, Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell. Nordheim participated in ''The Voice – Norges beste stemme'' in 2012. His mentor in the program was Madcon's Yosef Wolde-Mariam. By the end of August 2020, he was contestant in NRK's 9th season of ''Stjernekamp''. In the 6th episode he went out of the song competition.
