The race started in Calpe and finished in Valencia. The race was won by Laurent Jalabert of the team. Laurent Jalabert
Laurent Jalabert (born 30 November 1968) is a French former professional road racing cyclist, from 1989 to 2002. Affectionately known as ''"Jaja"'' (slang for a glass of wine; when he continued drinking wine as a professional, the nickname stuck because of the similarity to his name), he won many one-day and stage races and was ranked number 1 in the world in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. Although he never won the Tour de France, where he suffered altitude sickness, he won the Vuelta a España in 1995; as well as the leader's jersey, he won the sprinter's jersey and climber's jersey in the same race — only the third rider to have done this in a Grand Tour. With Alessandro Petacchi, Eddy Merckx, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov and Mark Cavendish, he is one of only five riders to win the points classification in all three grand tours. Ángel Luis Casero Moreno (born 27 September 1972 in Albalat dels Tarongers, Province of Valencia) is a retired Spanish road bicycle racer who raced professionally between 1994 and 2005. His first win was at the 1995 Clásica a los Puertos de Guadarrama followed by the 1997 Vuelta a Castilla y León. In 1998 and 1999, he was Spanish national champion; in 1999, he finished fifth in the Tour de France. He finished second in the Vuelta a España in 2000 and won it in 2001. His name was later tied to the Operation Puerto doping case. Didier Rous
Didier Rous (born 18 September 1970 in Montauban, France) is a French former professional road bicycle racer. He competed in the men's individual road race at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Biography He started his professional career with Gan in 1993 before leaving for Festina in 1997, the year in which he won a stage of the Tour de France. In 1998 the Tour and in particular the Festina team were struck by a doping scandal which led to revelations that the team had organised a doping fund under the managemt of Bruno Roussel, the directeur sportif, and the team's doctor, Erik Rykaert. Rous said he had taken the blood enhancer, EPO. In 2000 he joined a new team, Bonjour, sponsored by a newspaper chain and managed by the former rider Jean-René Bernaudeau. Calpe () or Calp () is a coastal municipality located in the ''comarca'' of Marina Alta, in the province of Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain, by the Mediterranean Sea.
