1996 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy
The 1996 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy, also known as the Kuber Champions Trophy for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th edition of the Hockey Champions Trophy men's field hockey tournament. It was held from 7–15 December 1996 in the newly built Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Madras, India. Host selection India won the right to host the competition after Spain, the other contender, withdrew their bid in April 1994. The Asian Hockey Federation was tasked to monitor the competition by the International Hockey Federation. Gavin Ferreira
Gavin Ferreira is a former international field hockey player who resides in Orlem, Malad. He is an alumnus of St Anne's High School, Orlem and St Xavier's College, Mumbai. He has represented India in various field hockey tournaments internationally including the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia where he was one of the highest goal scorers for the Indian hockey team. He has represented India 118 times in International field hockey tournaments across the world and has scored 39 field goals. Because of his various achievements in domestic and international hockey, Gavin is a part of the hall of fame of the Mumbai Hockey Association. In 2007 Gavin coached the Indian hockey team in a miniaturised version of the game. This was a six-a-side hockey competition that was a part of the Indoor Asian Games held in Macau, China from 26 October – 3 November 2007. Abraham ("Bram") Robertus Lomans (born 19 April 1975 in Roosendaal) is a former Netherlands, Dutch field hockey player, who twice won the gold medal at the Olympics: in Atlanta (1996 Summer Olympics, 1996 and in Sydney (2000 Summer Olympics, 2000). He made his debut for the Dutch side on 16 June 1995 in a friendly match against Ireland men's national field hockey team, Ireland. Jacques Brinkman (born 26 August 1966 in Utrecht (city), Utrecht) is a former Netherlands, Dutch field hockey player, who twice won the golden medal with the national squad: at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and four years later, at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
