Senator
A senate is a deliberative assembly, often the upper house or chamber of a bicameral legislature. The name comes from the ancient Roman Senate (Latin: ''Senatus''), so-called as an assembly of the senior (Latin: ''senex'' meaning "the elder" or "old man") and therefore considered wiser and more experienced members of the society or ruling class. Jerry Dorey
Jerry Dorey was a member of the States of Jersey 1993–2005. Biography Jerry Dorey was born in 1951 at Ealing, London. He was educated at Victoria College, Jersey and Oxford University, gaining an M.A. (Oxon) in French. He took up a career as a freelance computer programmer in Jersey before being elected to the States of Jersey as Deputy for Saint Helier No.1 district in 1993. As a Deputy he was a member of Education, Health, Public Services, Broadcasting, JTA, Employment and Social Security and Establishment Committees; he sat on the Marina Committee of Inquiry, and the Limited Liability Partnerships Committee of Inquiry. Elections In Jersey
Elections in Jersey take place for the States Assembly and at parish-level. Various parties have been formed over the years in Jersey, but few candidates stand for election affiliated to any political party. All elections in Jersey use the first-past-the-post voting system. In 2008, the voting age was reduced to 16 years. National elections Jersey elects a legislature. From November 2011, the States Assembly has 51 elected members: 10 Senators (elected on an island-wide basis), 29 Deputies (elected in single- and multi-seat constituencies) and 12 Connétables (heads of the parishes). The normal term of office for elected States Members is four years, though members elected in October 2011 and October 2014 will serve for shorter periods. Geraint Jennings (born 13 May 1966) is a Jersey member of Municipality of St Helier and linguist. Biography Born in Saint Helier, he was educated at Victoria College Preparatory and Christ's Hospital. He graduated from University College, Oxford with a Master of Arts (Oxon) in Modern Languages. Further studies include a Licenciate Diploma in TESOL from Trinity College, London. He is fluent in Russian. His interests include art and illustration. Terry Le Sueur
Terence Augustine Le Sueur OBE was Chief Minister of Jersey between 2008 and 2011. He was born at Millbrook, Saint Helier, and was educated at De La Salle College, Jersey and Oxford University, where he was the King Charles Exhibitioner at Jesus College; and read physics. After being a teacher at De La Salle College, Jersey he moved into a career in accountancy. He was first elected to the States of Jersey as Deputy for St Helier #3&4 in 1987 (re-elected 1990, 1993 and 1996). In 1990 he became President of the Social Security Committee. Alan Simon Crowcroft is a Jersey politician, Connétable of St Helier, and former teacher. He has been an elected member of the States of Jersey since 1996. Background Crowcroft is the son of zoologists Peter Crowcroft and Gillian Godfrey. He was educated at Canford School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, and received a Diploma in Education from Westminster College, Oxford. After a career in teaching English in Oxford and Jersey, he founded the Jersey School of English in 1991. He is married with five children.
