The 1995–96 Scottish Premier Division season was the second season involving a relegation playoff with the Scottish First Division. The season began on 26 August 1995. Overview The 1995–96 Scottish Premier Division season ended in success for Rangers who won the title by four points from nearest rivals Celtic to clinch eight titles in a row, despite Celtic losing only one league match in the entire season. Falkirk were relegated to the First Division after finishing bottom with Partick Thistle also being relegated after losing the relegation playoff to Dundee United. As champions, Rangers qualified for the Champions League while Celtic were joined by third-placed Aberdeen in qualifying for the UEFA Cup. Scottish Football League Premier Division
The Scottish Football League Premier Division was, from 1975 until 1998, the top division of the Scottish Football League and the entire Scottish football league system. It lay above the Scottish Football League First, Second and (from 1994) Third divisions. History Background The Scottish Football League (SFL) was formed in 1890, initially with 12 clubs. More clubs joined the league soon afterwards, which was split into two divisions (Division One and Division Two) in 1893. A third division was added in 1923, but this lasted only three years before it collapsed under heavy financial losses. From 1926 until the Second World War, the SFL returned to two divisions. Motherwell ( sco, Mitherwall, gd, Tobar na Màthar) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Darren Jackson (born 25 July 1966) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played predominantly as a forward. Jackson played for several clubs in Scotland and England, including Newcastle United, Dundee United, Hibernian, Celtic and Heart of Midlothian. John Inglis (born 16 October 1966) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He was nicknamed "Zeus". John began his career as a professional footballer in 1983. He played the majority of his career with Scottish Premier League clubs St Johnstone FC and Aberdeen FC. John won the Scottish League Cup in 1995. He moved to Levski Sofia, becoming the first Scot to play in the A PFG, and then winning the League and Cup double in 1999-2000. Following his retirement, Inglis remained in Bulgaria and became an agent. John took his football agents license in Bulgaria and holds an agents license 0032 with the Bulgarian BFU. The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football club competition contested annually by the winners of domestic cup competitions.
