The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. Andreas Michalopoulos ( el, Ανδρέας Μιχαλόπουλος; 23 February 1948 – 4 January 2022) was a Greek footballer who played as a striker for Panachaiki. Career He played for Panachaiki when the team qualified for the 1973–74 UEFA Cup. Before the 1973–74 UEFA Cup game against Grazer AK, an injury seemed to put an early end to his career. Michalopoulos managed to help his team some more years, but he only played 48 games in five seasons until 1979, when he officially retired. He appeared once for the Greece national team, on 21 February 1973 against Spain. Greece lost 3–1 in the World Cup qualification match. Nikos Goumas Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Νίκος Γκούμας) was a multi-purpose stadium in Nea Filadelfeia, a northwestern suburb of Athens, Greece. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of AEK Athens F.C. It is now replaced by Agia Sophia Stadium built at the same site. Name The stadium was named "AEK Stadium" ( el, Γήπεδο ΑΕΚ) but was also known as "Nea Filadelfeia Stadium" ( el, Στάδιο Νέας Φιλαδέλφειας).
