1995 Vale Of Glamorgan Council Election
The 1995 Vale of Glamorgan Council election was held on 4 May 1995 to the new Vale of Glamorgan Council unitary authority in Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It took place on the same day as other council elections in Wales and England. These were the first elections since the re-organization of local government in Wales. Though the Conservative Party had led the previous council, their representation was decimated at the 1995 election, with Labour winning a majority. The next full elections took place in 1999. Overview These were the first elections held following local government reorganisation, which created new 'super authorities' and would lead to the abolition of South Glamorgan County Council on 1 April 1996. Vale Of Glamorgan Council
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is the governing body for the Vale of Glamorgan, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. It was run by the Conservative Party after the 2008 United Kingdom local elections, taking over the council from no overall control. Following the 2012 elections, it reverted to no overall control, and remained as such following the 2017 and 2022 elections. History The new Vale of Glamorgan Council unitary authority came into effect on 1 April 1996, following the dissolution of South Glamorgan. Baruc (electoral Ward)
Baruc is the name of an electoral ward in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It covers the southern area of the town, including Barry Island, Cold Knap and the area around Romilly Park. The ward elects three county councillors to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and three councillors to Barry Town Council. The ward is currently represented by Plaid Cymru. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 10,621. Peterston-super-Ely is the name of an electoral ward in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, which covers its namesake village of Peterston-super-Ely and the neighbouring communities of Pendoylan and Welsh St Donats. The ward elects a county councillor to the Vale of Glamorgan Council. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 2,289.
