1995 Liberty Bowl
The 1995 Liberty Bowl (December) game was a college football bowl game played on December 30, 1995, at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The 37th edition of the Liberty Bowl, it featured the Stanford Cardinal and the East Carolina Pirates. Although East Carolina did not reach the end zone on offense—they scored on four field goals and an interception return for a touchdown—that effort, combined with strong defense, was enough to defeat Stanford, 19–13. The Cardinal scored the game's only offensive touchdown, while cornerback Kwame Ellis returned a blocked punt for touchdown and was named the game's MVP in a losing effort. Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (originally named Memphis Memorial Stadium, and later Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium) is a football stadium located at the former Mid-South Fairgrounds in the Midtown area of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The 1995–96 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 1995 NCAA Division I-A football season. In the first year of the Bowl Alliance era, the Alliance achieved its goal of matching the two top-ranked teams in the country in the Fiesta Bowl, designated as the Bowl Alliance national championship game for the 1995 season. The Calgary Stampeders are a professional Canadian football team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Stampeders compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Eric Abrams
Eric Abrams (born c. 1974 in University City, San Diego) is a former Stanford placekicker High school Eric attended La Jolla Country Day School. The school at the time had played eight-man football. In his senior year, he was one of the top placekickers in the country, missing just 10 out of 189 extra points. College career Eric attended Stanford University. He played under head coach Bill Walsh, who referred to Abrams as a "sweetheart". As a freshman, Abrams made 15 out of 17 field goal attempts and scored all 21 extra points. He replaced junior Aaron Mills. Abrams had a distinct look; he was about 5-foot-7, weighed 160 pounds, and wore a one-bar face mask.
