1995 FIVB Men's World Cup
The 1995 FIVB Men's World Cup was held from 18 November to 2 December 1995 in Japan. Twelve men's national teams played in cities all over Japan for the right to a fast lane ticket into the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The first three qualified. The twelve competing teams played a single-round robin format, in two parallel groups (site A and site B). The men played in Tokyo, Sendai, Fukushima, Chiba, Hiroshima, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima. Andrea Giani
Andrea Giani (born 22 April 1970) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player who scored numerous successes in the 1990s, including three World Championships with his national team. He is considered one of the best volleyball players ever. He was an all-rounder able to play both as outside hitter and as middle blocker, but he played several times as opposite too. Career Giani’s father, Dario, was a rower who took part in the 1964 Summer Olympics for Italy. After having trained with the father, now a rowing coach, Andrea tried for brief period as a football player, in 1985 the 14-year-old Giani began his career as a volleyball player in the local team of Sabaudia, in the Southern Latium, where he lived. Julio Velasco
Julio Velasco (born 9 February 1952) is an Argentine former professional volleyball player and coach. He's had Italian citizenship obtained in 1992. Velasco was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. Velasco currently serves as a sports director for the Italian Volleyball Federation. Career Player Julio Velasco began playing volleyball at the age of 15 for National University of La Plata Club. Coach Velasco became assistant coach on the Argentina national men's team from 1981 to 1983. In 1983 he was invited to coach for Tre Valli Jesi in Italy, staying until 1985. David Bellini (volleyball)
David Bellini (7 November 1972 – 20 October 2016) was an Italian screenwriter, television writer, story editor and docu-director. Screenwriter of the famous TV series ''Un medico in famiglia'', head writer of the Italian programs: ''Tetris'' and ''Festa italiana'', creator and director of a number of docu-series such as ''Passaggi Segreti'' and ''Tra cielo e terra''. Biography and Education Bellini was born in Grosseto, Maremma (Tuscany) in 1972. Son of a skilled worker and a hairdresser. He graduated in Political Science in the University of Siena. Vigor Bovolenta
Vigor Bovolenta (30 May 1974 – 24 March 2012) was a volleyball player from Italy. Bovolenta was part of the men's national team that won the European Championship in 1995 and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He died at the age of 37 only a few hours after feeling faint (allegedly suffering a heart attack) during an Italian League fourth level game between his team, Forlì, and the reserve team of Macerata. Andrea Zorzi
Andrea Zorzi (born 29 July 1965 in Noale, province of Venice) is a former Italian volleyball player, who won two World Championships with the Italy men's national volleyball team (1990 and 1994). A 201 cm athlete, Zorzi was en effective spiker playing usually as opposite hitter. He was popularly known as Zorro. After his debut in Bormio in 1986, he totalled 325 caps with Italian national team. He was a silver medalist in the 1996 Summer Olympics and also competed at the 1988 and 1992 games. Pasquale Gravina
Pasquale Gravina (born 1 May 1970 in Campobasso, Molise) is a manager and a former Italian professional volleyball player. Athlete Gravina is 201 cm and played as middle attacker. After some experiences for minor leagues, he made his debut in the Italian volleyball championship first division in 1988, for Falconara. His qualities, especially in block actions, made him a choice for a top team: Maxicono Parma in 1990. In this club he won the ''scudetto'' in 1992 and 1993. Later he played from 1996 until 2001 for Sisley Volley where he won the national title three times more. Then he played for Lube Volley in which he won the Champions League in 2002 and the Italian Cup in 2003. Andrea Gardini (born 1 October 1965) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver (Atlanta 1996) and bronze (Sydney 2000) Olympic Games medallist, three–time World Champion (1990, 1994, 1998), and four–time European Champion ( 1989, 1993, 1995, 1999). Marco Bracci (born August 23, 1966 in Fucecchio, province of Florence) is a former Italian volleyball player, ranked amongst the world's most valuable players of the late 1980s and 1990s. A 197 cm athlete, Bracci played as passer-hitter. Bracci made his debut for the Italy national team on May 6, 1988. Lorenzo Bernardi
Lorenzo Bernardi (born 11 August 1968) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver medallist at the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996, two–time World Champion (1990, 1994), and a two–time European Champion ( 1989, 1995). Bernardi was elected best player of the 1994 World Championship and 1995 European Championship, and in 2001, the FIVB declared him to be the "Volleyball Player of the Century" with Karch Kiraly. Andrea Sartoretti
Andrea Sartoretti (born 19 June 1971) is an Italian former volleyball player. Biography Born at Perugia, Sartoretti debuted in the Italian Serie in 1991, winning the Award as best Under 23 player. A 1.94 cm athlete, he usually played opposite hitter. Sartoretti was known for his powerful serve, which gained him the nickname of ''Sartorace''. He won one Italian Serie A1 national title in 1997, with Pallavolo Modena. Sartoretti also won three CEV Champions Leagues and two European Supercups in his stay at Messaggero Ravenna (1991-1996).
