1995 Allan Cup
The 1995 Allan Cup was the Canadian national senior ice hockey championship for the 1994-95 Senior "AAA" season. The event was hosted by the Stony Plain Eagles in Stony Plain, Alberta. The 1995 tournament marked the 87th time that the Allan Cup had been awarded. The Warroad Lakers won their second consecutive Allan Cup title in 1995, this would mark the sixth time an American club would win the Canadian Senior "AAA" title. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior AAA teams in Canada compete annually for the Allan Cup. Stony Plain Eagles
The Stony Plain Eagles are a senior ice hockey team based in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. Founded in the 1930s, the team moved up to the Senior AAA ranks in 1992. They played in the Allan Cup Hockey West until 2020. The Eagles were the 1999 Allan Cup National Senior champions of Canada. History In 1987, the Eagles would win both the Alberta and Western Canada Intermediate "A" Championship, but lost the Hardy Cup Intermediate National Championship in straight games to Miramichi Gagnon Packers. From 1992 until 2003, the Eagles captured twelve consecutive Alberta Senior AAA Provincial Championships, reaching six Allan Cup finals in that time. Stony Plain, Alberta
Stony Plain is a town in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Parkland County. It is west of Edmonton adjacent to the City of Spruce Grove and sits on Treaty 6 land. Stony Plain is known for its many painted murals representing various periods, events and people throughout the town's history. The town was originally known as Dog Rump Creek. History The name of the town is believed to have come from one of two possible origins. The first is that the Stoney people camped in the area historically. The second possibility is that Dr. James Hector, a geologist on the Palliser Expedition, noticed boulders scattered across the area. The official name for the settlement was adopted in 1892. Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. The trustees of the Stanley Cup decided that the Cup would be awarded to the professional ice champion, meaning there was no corresponding trophy for the amateur championship of Canada. The Powell River Regals were a Canadian Senior ice hockey team from Powell River, British Columbia. The Regals played an independent schedule under the supervision of the BC Amateur Hockey Association. The Regals were three-time Allan Cup National Senior "AAA" Champions and one-time Hardy Cup National Intermediate "A" Champions. The Truro Bearcats were a Canadian Senior ice hockey team from Truro, Nova Scotia. The Bearcats were the 1998 Allan Cup Canadian National champions of Senior hockey. History In 1998, the Truro Bearcats became only the second team from Nova Scotia to win the Allan Cup. The Bearcats started off the 1997-98 season by announcing that the team would cease operation to help make way for the upstart Truro Bearcats Junior "A" team after twelve years of operation. The Warroad Lakers were an American Senior ice hockey team from Warroad, Minnesota. The Lakers played in various Manitoba AHA and Thunder Bay AHA senior and intermediate leagues and were granted special eligibility for the Allan Cup and Hardy Cup by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.
