1994 Challenge Tour
The 1994 Challenge Tour was the sixth season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. The tour started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially renamed as the Challenge Tour at the start of the 1990 season. The Challenge Tour Rankings were won by Northern Ireland's Raymond Burns. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 1994 season. Unofficial events The following events were sanctioned by the Challenge Tour, but did not carry official money, nor were wins official. Challenge Tour Rankings ''For full rankings, see 1994 Challenge Tour graduates.'' The rankings were based on prize money won during the season, calculated in Pound sterling. The top 15 players on the tour earned status to play on the 1995 European Tour. Michael Campbell
Michael Shane Campbell (born 23 February 1969) is a New Zealand professional golfer who is best known for having won the 2005 U.S. Open and, at the time, the richest prize in golf, the £1,000,000 HSBC World Match Play Championship, in the same year. He played on the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia. Early life, amateur career Campbell was born in Hāwera, Taranaki. Ethnically, he is predominantly Māori, from the Ngāti Ruanui (father's side) and Ngā Rauru (mother's side) iwi. He also has some Scottish ancestry, being a great-great-great-grandson of John Logan Campbell, a Scottish emigrant to New Zealand. As a young child, he lived near his mother's Wai-o-Turi marae at Whenuakura, just south of Patea, and also spent much of his time with whanau at his father's Taiporohenui marae, near Hāwera. Joakim Grönhagen
Joakim Grönhagen (born 25 October 1972) is a Swedish professional golfer who played on the Challenge Tour and European Tour. Career Grönhagen played 121 tournaments on the Challenge Tour 1992–2001, including one win. In 1992, he was runner-up at the Siab Open. In 1994, he narrowly missed out on two victories, losing the Swedish Matchplay Championship final to Per Nyman 1 up, and losing a playoff at the Volvo Finnish Open to Mikael Piltz. Grönhagen played on the 1995 European Tour with best finish T25 at Volvo Scandinavian Masters, ending up 138th in the season rankings. After retiring from tour, Grönhagen became a golf instructor, coaching Simon Forsström and HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. Västerås Open
The Västerås Open was a golf tournament on the Swedish Golf Tour that featured on the Challenge Tour 1990–1994. It was played in Västerås, Sweden. The Kentab Open was first played as an amateur tournament at Västerås GC in 1978, and it was added to the Swedish Golf Tour in 1986. Starting in 1998 the tournament began rotating between Västerås GC, Frösåker G&CC, Ängsö GC and Fullerö GC. In 2007 Västerås Municipality became the main sponsor and it was rebranded the ''Västerås Mälarstaden Open''. A similarly named event, the Kentab/RBG Open, sponsored name of the 1996 Swedish PGA Championship, was played at Frösåker G&CC and featured on the 1996 Challenge Tour. The Mémorial Olivier Barras is a professional golf tournament that is held annually at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans-Montana, Valais, Switzerland. It was founded in 1965 in memory of Olivier Barras, a nine-time Swiss champion golfer who died in a car crash in June 1964, at Monza racing on the track. Per Haugsrud (born 20 February 1965) is a Norwegian professional golfer and the first Norwegian to play on the European Tour. Amateur career Haugsrud began to play golf at the nine hole course in Sarpsborg when he was only seven years old. He was a scratch player at age 15. He won two Norwegian Amateur titles and represented Norway in the 1984 Eisenhower Trophy, the World Amateur Golf Team Championships. Eric Carlberg (born 28 August 1974) is a Swedish professional golfer. Carlberg won the Ramlösa Open on the Challenge Tour in 1994 as an amateur. He played on the Challenge Tour 1995–2002.
