Luis Alberto Machado
Luis Alberto Machado (21 January 1932 – 23 February 2016) was a Venezuelan lawyer, author, Secretary of the Presidency and Minister of Intellectual Development of Venezuela. He was best known for his ideas about the malleability of intelligence. Machado served as Secretary of the Presidency during Rafael Caldera's first Presidency (1969-1974). He asserted, in his books and writings on the subject, that perceived limits on intelligence are false and are primarily tied to upbringing and social conditioning. He argued that through careful environmental stimulation, especially in the early stages of child development, intelligence can be developed indefinitely and exponentially throughout life. As a politician, he stated that a nation's collective intellectual power was its greatest asset. He was appointed Minister of Intellectual Development, a cabinet post created specifically for advancing and applying his ideas with government backing, during the presidency of Luis Herrera Ca ...

Authentic Renewal Organization
The Authentic Renewal Organization (ORA) is an Evangelical and Pentecostal political party in Venezuela, originally founded in 1988 by Godofredo Marín and Carlos Mendez. The ORA does not align itself with any specific political ideology, but believes itself to be a form of government under the "sacred and noble Christian principles of love, peace, faith, and hope". History In its first electoral participation, the party nominated one of its founders, Godofredo Ramón Marín, as a candidate for the general elections of 1988. The electoral promise of the party was based on "governing Venezuela for five years according to the Evangelical Bible," but with only 0.87% of the votes, the party and the candidate did not obtain the results they had expected. Despite their poor performance in the elections, the organization obtained two seats in the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Republic. The deputies elected at that time were Mr. Gabriel Niño Laguado, representative of th ...

Radical Cause
The Radical Cause ( es, La Causa Radical, LCR), stylized as La Causa Я, is a minor left-wing political party in Venezuela, and today part of the Venezuelan opposition to president Nicolás Maduro. At its peak in the early 1990s, the party came within touching distance of winning the 1993 presidential elections. However, the party split in 1997 when a number of members left to form Patria Para Todos, now part of the pro-government Great Patriotic Pole (GPP) electoral alliance. LCR has now lost much of its national profile, but retains some influence in its home region of Guayana. History Early history LCR was founded in 1971 by :es:Alfredo Maneiro, an intellectual and former guerrilla who had been expelled from the Communist Party of Venezuela. The new revolutionary socialist party grew quickly, benefiting from the collapse of the Communist Party. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the party focused on organizing factory workers in the Guayana region of Bolivar state through th ...

Single Seat District
A single-member district is an electoral district represented by a single officeholder. It contrasts with a multi-member district, which is represented by multiple officeholders. Single-member districts are also sometimes called single-winner voting, winner-takes-all, or single-member constituencies. A number of electoral systems use single-member districts, including plurality voting (first-past-the-post), two-round systems, instant-runoff voting (IRV), approval voting, range voting, Borda count, and Condorcet methods (such as the Minimax Condorcet, Schulze method, and Ranked Pairs). Of these, plurality and runoff voting are the most common. In some countries, such as Australia and India, members of the lower house of parliament are elected from single-member districts; and members of the upper house are elected from multi-member districts. In some other countries like Singapore, members of parliament can be elected from both single-member districts as well as multi-member dis ...
