1993 NBA Finals
The 1993 NBA Finals was the championship round of the 1992–93 NBA season, and the conclusion of the season's playoffs. It featured the two-time defending NBA champion and Eastern Conference champion Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, and the Western Conference playoff champion Phoenix Suns, winners of 62 games and led by regular season MVP Charles Barkley. 1992–93 Phoenix Suns Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the 25th season for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association. This season is most memorable for the Suns acquiring All-Star power forward Charles Barkley from the Philadelphia 76ers, and signing free agent Danny Ainge prior to the season. Under new head coach Paul Westphal, the Suns had a successful season posting a 14-game winning streak in December, which led them to a 21–4 start, held a 38–10 record at the All-Star break, then posted an 11-game winning streak between March and April to finish with an NBA-best 62–20 record. The team set the franchise record for most wins in a season (the record was later tied in the 2004–05 season and later broken in the 2021-22 NBA season). John Paxson
John MacBeth Paxson (born September 29, 1960) is an American basketball administrator and former player who was vice president of basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2009 to 2020. He was their general manager from 2003 to 2009. Paxson played eleven NBA seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, winning three championships as a member of the Bulls. He was an All-American college player at the University of Notre Dame. High school career Paxson attended Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio, following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Jim, who would go on to a star career at the University of Dayton, and, later, in the NBA, as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers. Andrew Lang (basketball)
Andrew Charles Lang Jr. (born June 28, 1966) is a retired American professional basketball player who played twelve seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Career After a four-year career at the University of Arkansas, Lang was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the second round (28th pick overall) of the 1988 NBA draft. He quickly developed a reputation as a proficient shotblocker. For years, he maintained the fourth all-time NBA record of one blocked shot every 9.12 minutes. After starting a career-high 71 games while recording career-highs of 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in 1992, Lang was traded (along with Jeff Hornacek and Tim Perry) to the Philadelphia 76ers for All-Star forward Charles Barkley. Tim Perry
Timothy D. Perry (born June 4, 1965) is an American former basketball player. Following his college career with Temple he played professionally for 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association and Liga ACB. Playing career Perry played college basketball for Temple University from 1984 to 1988 and left as the schools leader in blocks with 392. He was selected seventh overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 1988 NBA draft. Through eight NBA seasons, he averaged 6.8 points and 4 rebounds per game. Charles Barkley claims in ''Sir Charles: The Wit and Wisdom of Charles Barkley'' that the Suns had to trade Perry to Philadelphia in 1992 because he was #34, Barkley's number. Jeff Hornacek
Jeffrey John Hornacek (; born May 3, 1963) is an American professional basketball coach and a former player who is a coaching consultant for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He previously was the head coach for both the Phoenix Suns (2013–2016) and the New York Knicks (2016–2018). He was also an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets. 1992–93 Philadelphia 76ers Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the 76ers 44th season in the National Basketball Association, and 30th season in Philadelphia. The Sixers received the ninth pick in the 1992 NBA draft, and selected Clarence Weatherspoon out of Southern Miss. During the off-season, the team acquired Jeff Hornacek, Andrew Lang and Tim Perry from the Phoenix Suns, and hired Doug Moe as their new head coach. The Sixers got off to a bad start, losing 11 of their first 14 games after a 7-game losing streak between November and December, and held an 18–31 record at the All-Star break. 1987–88 Phoenix Suns Season
The 1987–88 Phoenix Suns season was the 19th season for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association. The team was led by new head coach John Wetzel. Having missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, Suns management made a midseason trade with Cleveland in attempt to return the Suns to postseason play. The trade would in part send All-Star Larry Nance in exchange for rookie Kevin Johnson. All home games were played at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Charles Daniel Smith (born July 16, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). College career As a college player, Smith was named Big East Player of the Year in 1988. The 1992–93 NBA season was the 23rd season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. During the off-season, the Cavaliers signed free agent Gerald Wilkins, and then traded Steve Kerr to the Orlando Magic during the first month of the regular season. The Cavaliers struggled with an 8–11 start, but then went on a 7-game winning streak afterwards in December.
