1993 Labatt Brier
The 1993 Labatt Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship, was held from March 6 to 14 at the Ottawa Civic Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. The finals featured the all star Team Ontario, consisting of skip Russ Howard, his brother Glenn at third, second Wayne Middaugh and lead Peter Corner against a British Columbia team made up of two expatriate Brier winners in skip Rick Folk (1980 Brier champion for Saskatchewan) and third Pat Ryan (1988 & 1989 Brier champion for Alberta). The final was won by Ontario. Thanks to steals in the third and fourth ends, they were able to hold on to a victory by a score of 5–3 in the last Brier before the adoption of the free guard zone. Glenn Howard, Middaugh and Corner would all later compete for Ontario as skips, and both Howard and Middaugh won Briers and World championships as skips. Alan O'Leary
Alan O'Leary (born February 4, 1962, in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian curling, curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. O'Leary won a provincial junior title in 1981 and represented Nova Scotia at the 1981 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, he led his team of Paul Dykeman, David Young and Scott Sutherland to a 5–6 record. O'Leary has won two Deloitte Tankard, provincial championships as a skip (curling), skip winning in 1993 and 1994. He and his team of Bob LeClair, Steve Johnston (curler), Steve Johnston and Steve Piggott represented Nova Scotia at the 1993 Labatt Brier, where he O'Leary led his team to a 2–9 record, in last place. Glossary Of Curling
This is a glossary of terms in curling. #s During a game, sweepers might call out numbers. These numbers indicate how far the sweepers think the rock in play will travel. This system is relatively new to the game and is often attributed to the Randy Ferbey rink since they were the first major team to use the system, but it is not known whose idea it originally was. 1 to 3 indicates a rock in the free guard zone, 4 to 6 the rings in front of the tee line, 7 being on the button, and 8 to 10 the rings behind the tee line. Sometimes, 11 is used to indicate a stone thrown so that it passes through the house and out of play. Leduc, Alberta
Leduc ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is south of the provincial capital of Edmonton and is part of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. History Leduc was established in 1891, when Robert Telford, a settler, who had bought land, in 1889, near a lake which would later bear his name. It was on that piece of land where the new settlement would take root. Telford established a stopping place for the stagecoach line that in 1889 connected Calgary to Edmonton. It became known as Telford's Place. Telford previously served as an officer for the North-West Mounted Police, and later became Leduc's first postmaster, first general merchantman, and first justice of the peace. He was also elected to serve as Leduc's first Member of the Alberta legislature (MLA)in 1905. Randy Woytowich
Randy Woytowich (born July 22, 1954) is a Canadian curling, curler from Saskatchewan. He is a former Canadian mixed champion and two-time provincial men's champion. As a junior curler, Woytowich and teammates Rick Woytowich, Ben Dies and John Kuffner won the Saskatchewan junior men's provincial championship. In 1984, Woytowich, Kathy Fahlman, Brian McCusker and Jan Betker won the provincial mixed championship, and then went on to win the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, representing Saskatchewan. The team went undefeated at the event, and earned a direct spot in the final against Quebec, which they won. The team was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Rick Lang
Richard P. "Rick" Lang (born December 12, 1953) is a Canadian curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is a two-time World champion and three-time Brier champion representing Northern Ontario. He currently serves as a performance consultant for Curling Canada. Playing career Lang was runner up at the 1971 Canadian Junior Curling Championships as the lead on Doug Smith's team. He later played third with Brier champions Bill Tetley (1975), and Al Hackner (1982, 1985), winning two World championships with Hackner and a bronze medal at the Worlds with Tetley. He also skipped Northern Ontario to a gold medal at the 1981 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Lang later skipped Northern Ontario at the 1991 and 1993 Briers. He currently coaches the Silvana Tirinzoni rink Career Born in Masson, Quebec, Charette has played in thirteen Briers, and was the first curler to have played every position (including alternate) at a Brier. He skipped teams in 1989, 1993 and 2007; played third for Guy Hemmings in 1998 and 1999, played second for Don Westphal in 1997, played lead for Westphal in 1996 and was the alternate for Kevin Adams in 1991, Ted Butler in 1992 and Jean-Michel Ménard in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
