1993 Hamburg State Election
The 1993 Hamburg state election was held on 19 September 1993 to elect the members of the 15th Hamburg Parliament. The incumbent government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) lost its majority. The election saw the entry of the Statt Party into Parliament, with which the SPD formed a coalition. First Mayor Henning Voscherau continued in office. Hamburg Parliament
The Hamburg Parliament (german: Hamburgische Bürgerschaft; literally “Hamburgish Citizenry”) is the unicameral legislature of the German state of Hamburg according to the constitution of Hamburg. As of 2011 there were 121 members in the parliament, representing a relatively equal amount of constituencies. The parliament is situated in the city hall Hamburg Rathaus and is part of the Government of Hamburg. The parliament is among other things responsible for the law, the election of the ''Erster Bürgermeister'' ( First Mayor) for the election period and the control of the Senate ( cabinet). The President of the Hamburg Parliament is the highest official person of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Free Democratic Party (Germany)
The Free Democratic Party (german: link=no, Freie Demokratische Partei; FDP, ) is a liberal political party in Germany. The FDP was founded in 1948 by members of former liberal political parties which existed in Germany before World War II, namely the German Democratic Party and the German People's Party. For most of the second half of the 20th century, the FDP held the balance of power in the Bundestag. It has been a junior coalition partner to both the CDU/CSU (1949–1956, 1961–1966, 1982–1998 and 2009–2013) and Social Democratic Party of Germany (1969–1982, 2021–presenter).
