1992–93 Los Angeles Clippers Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the Clippers' 23rd season in the National Basketball Association, and their 9th season in Los Angeles. In the 1992 NBA Draft, the Clippers selected Randy Woods out of La Salle University with the sixteenth overall pick, and selected Elmore Spencer out of UNLV with the 25th overall pick. In the off-season, the team acquired Mark Jackson from the New York Knicks, acquired second-year center Stanley Roberts from the Orlando Magic in a three-team trade, acquired Hot Plate Williams from the Washington Bullets, and signed free agent Kiki Vandeweghe. After losing their first three games, the Clippers played solid basketball winning 12 of their next 16 games, and later held a 26–25 record at the All-Star break. Larry Brown (basketball)
Lawrence Harvey Brown (born September 14, 1940) is an American basketball coach and former player who is currently an assistant coach of the Memphis Tigers. Brown is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA national championship (Kansas Jayhawks, 1988) and an NBA title (Detroit Pistons, 2004). He has a 1,275–965 lifetime professional coaching record in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is the only coach in NBA history to lead eight teams (differing franchises) to the playoffs. He also won an ABA championship as a player with the Oakland Oaks in the 1968–69 season, and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1964. 1992 NBA Draft
The 1992 NBA draft took place on June 24, 1992, at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. The draft is considered to be one of the deepest in NBA history. The top three picks (Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Christian Laettner) were considered can't-miss prospects. O'Neal and Mourning are Hall of Famers; O'Neal and Mourning are (individual) player-inducted. Laettner made one All-Star game in his career and was an Olympic Gold Medalist on the 1992 Dream Team, but did not live up to the lofty expectations set for him. The trio would end up playing together on the 2005 Miami Heat. Danny Manning
Daniel Ricardo Manning (born May 17, 1966) is an American college basketball coach and former professional player who is the Associate Head Mens Basketball Coach at the University of Louisville. Manning played high school basketball at Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. He played college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks, and played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 14 years. After retiring from professional basketball Manning became an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Kansas. He won the national championship with the Jayhawks in 1988 as a player, and again as an assistant in 2008. He is the all-time leading scorer in Kansas basketball history with 2,951 points. 1991–92 Washington Bullets Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the Bullets' 31st season in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Bullets re-acquired Michael Adams from the Denver Nuggets, and signed free agents; David Wingate, and undrafted rookie forward Larry Stewart. However, Bernard King would miss the entire season with a right knee injury. To make matters worse, Hot Plate Williams was suspended for the entire season due to weight problems. The Bullets endured prolonged losing streaks in almost every month, as they traded Tom Hammonds midway through the season to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Rex Chapman, who only played in the final game of the season due a strained plantar fascia (left heel) injury. John Williams (basketball, Born 1966)
John Sam Williams (born October 26, 1966) is an American former basketball player who played professionally for several seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Liga ACB. His girth earned him the nickname "Hot Plate" Williams, in part to help distinguish him from John "Hot Rod" Williams of the Cleveland Cavaliers who likewise played college basketball in Louisiana (at Tulane University) and who also entered the NBA in 1986. Despite his size, in which he ballooned to close to 260 pounds by the time he was drafted, Williams was a highly skilled basketball player. 1991–92 Orlando Magic Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the Magic's 3rd season in the National Basketball Association. Orlando hosted the 1992 NBA All-Star Game and All-star weekend, where Nick Anderson participated in the Slam Dunk Contest (losing in the semi-final round). During the offseason, the Magic signed free agent Anthony Bowie. Finally returning to the Eastern Conference and settling into the Atlantic Division, the Magic had a disappointing third season. After winning their first three games leading them to a 6–8 start, the team suffered a winless month in December losing all 15 games, plus a 17-game losing streak in early January. Stanley Corvet Roberts (born February 7, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player who played center. He was said to have the potential to be the best center of all time. Mark A. Jackson (born April 1, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player. A point guard from St. John's University, he played for the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in a career spanning from 1987 to 2004.
