National Assembly (Slovenia)
The National Assembly ( sl, Državni zbor Republike Slovenije, or ), is the general representative body of Slovenia. According to the Constitution of Slovenia and the Constitutional Court of Slovenia, it is the major part of the distinctively incompletely bicameral Slovenian Parliament, the legislative branch of the Republic of Slovenia. It has 90 members, elected for a four-year term. 88 members are elected using the party-list proportional representation system and the remaining two, using the Borda count, by the Hungarian and Italian-speaking ethnic minorities, who have an absolute veto in matters concerning their ethnic groups. As of May 2022, the 9th National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia is in session. DEMOS (Slovenia)
Democratic Opposition of Slovenia, also known as the DEMOS (in Slovenian: ''Demokratična opozicija Slovenije'') was a coalition of centre-right political parties, created by an agreement between the Slovenian Democratic Union, the Social Democrat Alliance of Slovenia, the Slovene Christian Democrats, the Farmers' Alliance and the Greens of Slovenia. All these parties emerged after December 1989, when the Communist government permitted multiparty political life in Slovenia. The leader of the coalition was the famous dissident Jože Pučnik. In the first democratic elections in April 1990, DEMOS won 54% of the votes and formed the first multiparty government of the country, headed by the Christian Democrat Lojze Peterle. National Democratic Party (Slovenia)
The National Democratic Party ( sl, Narodno demokratska stranka) or NDS was a short lived Slovenian conservative political party, established with the split within the Slovenian Democratic Union in 1991. In October 1991, the majority within the Slovenian Democratic Union decided to change the name of the party to ''Slovenian Democratic Union - National Democrats'' and adopted a conservative platform for the coming elections. As a result, the left liberal faction, led by the party chairman Dimitrij Rupel left the party and founded the Democratic Party (they later joined the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia). In the elections of April 1992, the Democratic Party gained 5,01% of the popular vote and 6 MPs, while the National Democrats only 2,2% of the vote and no seat in Parliament. The Socialist Party of Slovenia ( sl, Socialistična stranka Slovenije, abbreviated SSS) was a political party in Slovenia. It was founded in 1990, as the successor of the Socialist Union of Working People of Slovenia (which in January 1990 had broken away from its Yugoslav parent organization and became an independent association). The founding conference of the party was held in Ljubljana on June 9, 1990. The party was led by Viktor Žakelj (the president of the party) and Ciril Zlobec. The party participated in the first free parliamentary election in Slovenia that took place in April 1990, obtaining 58,082 votes (5.37%) and five seats. Slovenian People's Party
The Slovenian People's Party ( sl, Slovenska ljudska stranka, , Slovene abbreviation SLS ) is a conservative, agrarian, Christian-democratic political party in Slovenia. Formed in 1988 under the name of Slovenian Peasant Union as the first democratic political organization in Yugoslavia, it changed its name to Slovenian People's Party in 1992. On 15 April 2000 it merged with the Slovene Christian Democrats to form the SLS+SKD Slovenian People's Party, and changed its name in 2001 to Slovenian People's Party.
