1991–92 Newcastle United F.C. Season
During the 1991–92 season, English football team Newcastle United participated in the Football League Second Division. The season started with much promise but quickly deteriorated into a relegation battle. Manager Ossie Ardiles struggled to add to his squad of talented youngsters due to lack of funds, the truth being the club was severely in debt. At one point it had looked like Newcastle would be relegated and could go out of business. Sir John Hall had all but taken control of the club, and replaced Ardiles with Kevin Keegan on 5 February 1992. An improvement in form helped Newcastle to narrowly avoid relegation from the Second Division, with their survival only confirmed on the last day of the season. George Forbes (businessman)
George Robert Forbes (9 October 1944 – 12 October 2022) was a Scottish businessman who was the chairman of Newcastle United Football Club. Biography Forbes grew up on the family farm in Berwickshire. He qualified as a livestock auctioneer and went from an employee at Wooler Auction Mart (in Northumberland) to the owner of the business and site, subsequently expanding it across the UK as County Auctions. Forbes eventually sold the livestock auction business to John Swan PLC in 1999. In the 1980s, Forbes was invited to join the board of directors of Newcastle United F.C. as it aimed to appease fan discontent by appointing a number of local businessmen. Forbes was a Newcastle United supporter from his early years and attended games throughout the country from his late teens. He moved from director to vice-chairman and finally chairman at Newcastle in 1990. Alan Neilson
Alan Neilson (born 26 September 1972) is a Welsh former professional footballer who currently works as a Professional Development Coach for Norwich City. He played his entire career in England as a defender from 1991 until 2007, notably in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Southampton. He also played for Fulham, Grimsby Town, Luton Town, Tamworth and Salisbury City. He later re-joined Luton Town in 2008 as a youth coach, before becoming assistant manager and having three spells as the club's caretaker manager. He left the club in July 2013 and joined Cambridge United as assistant coach later that year. On 11 May 2015, he left the club as assistant manager, in the place of Joe Dunne. Gavin Maguire
Gavin Terence Maguire (born 24 November 1967) is an English-born Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. Club career Maguire began his career as a forward with Northwood, moving to Defence when the club's regular centre back suffered a broken ankle. He signed for Queens Park Rangers, after being recommended to one of the club's scouts, and made his debut in a 1–0 win over Oxford United at the age of 18 in Division One. Maguire was taken to court later in his career for a tackle during his time with Queens Park Rangers which ultimately led to the retirement of Danny Thomas, resulting in an out-of-court settlement of £130,000. He went on to make 40 league appearances at Loftus Road before moving to Portsmouth in January 1989 for a fee of £175,000. After several years at Fratton Park, Maguire suffered a serious knee injury and, after being unable to win his place back, he spent time on loan with Newcastle United before joining Millwall in March 1993. ...
