1991–92 Newcastle United F.C. Season
During the 1991–92 season, English football team Newcastle United participated in the Football League Second Division. The season started with much promise but quickly deteriorated into a relegation battle. Manager Ossie Ardiles struggled to add to his squad of talented youngsters due to lack of funds, the truth being the club was severely in debt. At one point it had looked like Newcastle would be relegated and could go out of business. Sir John Hall had all but taken control of the club, and replaced Ardiles with Kevin Keegan on 5 February 1992. An improvement in form helped Newcastle to narrowly avoid relegation from the Second Division, with their survival only confirmed on the last day of the season. George Forbes (businessman)
George Robert Forbes (9 October 1944 – 12 October 2022) was a Scottish businessman who was the chairman of Newcastle United Football Club. Biography Forbes grew up on the family farm in Berwickshire. He qualified as a livestock auctioneer and went from an employee at Wooler Auction Mart (in Northumberland) to the owner of the business and site, subsequently expanding it across the UK as County Auctions. Forbes eventually sold the livestock auction business to John Swan PLC in 1999. In the 1980s, Forbes was invited to join the board of directors of Newcastle United F.C. as it aimed to appease fan discontent by appointing a number of local businessmen. Forbes was a Newcastle United supporter from his early years and attended games throughout the country from his late teens. Alan Neilson
Alan Neilson (born 26 September 1972) is a Welsh former professional footballer who currently works as a Professional Development Coach for Norwich City. He played his entire career in England as a defender from 1991 until 2007, notably in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Southampton. He also played for Fulham, Grimsby Town, Luton Town, Tamworth and Salisbury City. He later re-joined Luton Town in 2008 as a youth coach, before becoming assistant manager and having three spells as the club's caretaker manager. Gavin Maguire
Gavin Terence Maguire (born 24 November 1967) is an English-born Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. Club career Maguire began his career as a forward with Northwood, moving to Defence when the club's regular centre back suffered a broken ankle. He signed for Queens Park Rangers, after being recommended to one of the club's scouts, and made his debut in a 1–0 win over Oxford United at the age of 18 in Division One. Maguire was taken to court later in his career for a tackle during his time with Queens Park Rangers which ultimately led to the retirement of Danny Thomas, resulting in an out-of-court settlement of £130,000. He went on to make 40 league appearances at Loftus Road before moving to Portsmouth in January 1989 for a fee of £175,000. Darron McDonough
Darron Karl McDonough (born 7 November 1962) is an English former footballer, most noted as a player for Oldham Athletic and Luton Town. Playing career Born in Antwerp but raised in Lancashire, McDonough joined his local side Oldham Athletic from school as an apprentice in 1980. He played in 183 games in six seasons at Boundary Park before signing for Luton Town in an £87,000 transfer deal. He represented the Bedfordshire club 105 times in five seasons. Injuries plagued his time at Luton, and he was sidelined for Luton's famous League Cup victory over Arsenal in 1987–88, though he did appear in the defeat to Nottingham Forest a year later. Bjørn Kristensen (footballer, Born 1963)
Bjørn Kristensen (born 10 October 1963) is a Danish former professional footballer and Venstre politician in Aarhus Municipality. During his active playing career, he most notably played for Danish club AGF and English club Newcastle United. Kristensen also made 20 appearances in which he scored two goals for the Denmark national team, and represented his country at the 1988 European Championship. Club career Born in Malling, Kristensen started his career with local top-flight team AGF in 1982. His talent was soon discovered, as he played 12 matches for the Danish under-21 national team from 1983 to 1986. Brian Kilcline
Brian Kilcline (born 7 May 1962) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a centre half for Notts County, Coventry City, Oldham Athletic, Newcastle United, Swindon Town, Mansfield Town and Halifax Town, and was famous for his long hair and moustache. Career Kilcline captained Coventry City in the 1987 FA Cup Final at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur. At the time it was thought that Kilcline was responsible for scoring an own goal to give Spurs a 2–1 lead in the 40th minute, but this goal was eventually credited to Gary Mabbutt. Kilcline and Mabbutt were to clash again in the second half when Kilcline brought down Mabbutt with a tackle. Steven Norman Howey (born 26 October 1971) is an English football coach, former professional footballer and sports radio presenter. As a player, he was a centre back who notably played in the Premier League for Newcastle United, Manchester City, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers, before winding up his career with brief stings in the MLS with New England Revolution and in the Football League with Hartlepool United. He was capped four times by England and was part of the Euro 96 squad. Following the end of his playing days, Howey had a brief spell in charge of non-league side Crook Town before coming out of retirement to play for Bishop Auckland whilst serving as a coach. Robert James Elliott (born 25 December 1973) is an English football coach and former professional player, who is the strength coach for the United States U20 men's football team. Darren Shaun Bradshaw (born 19 March 1967) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a centre-back primarily but could also move into midfield. His playing career spanned fifteen years, during which he made over 200 Football League appearances. Paul Bodin
Paul John Bodin (born 13 September 1964) is a Welsh former professional footballer and coach who is now the coach of the Wales under-21 team. His son, Billy Bodin, is also a professional footballer. A former Chelsea youth team graduate, he moved to Cardiff City via Newport County in 1982. He helped Cardiff to win promotion out of the Third Division in 1982–83. He returned to non-League football with Merthyr Tydfil and Bath City in 1985, before rejoining Newport for a £15,000 fee in January 1988. Two months later he was sold on to Swindon Town for twice this sum, and became the club's first choice left-back, helping them to win the 1990 Second Division play-off final and winning himself a place on the PFA Team of the Year in 1990–91.
