During the 1991–92 English football season, Leicester City F.C. competed in the Football League Second Division. Season summary After narrowly avoiding relegation to the Third Division the previous season, Leicester City appointed Darlington manager Brian Little as the replacement for David Pleat, who had been sacked during the previous season. Little turned Leicester's fortunes around and the club finished in fourth, qualifying for the play-offs. After drawing 1–1 with fifth-placed Cambridge United at Abbey Stadium, Leicester crushed United 5–0 in the return leg at Filbert Street to qualify for the final. Leicester faced Blackburn Rovers at Wembley, but lost 1–0 from a penalty from former City player Mike Newell, thus denying Leicester a place in the inaugural season of the Premiership. Leicester ( ) is a city, unitary authority and the county town of Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England. It is the largest settlement in the East Midlands. The city lies on the River Soar and close to the eastern end of the National Forest. It is situated to the north-east of Birmingham and Coventry, south of Nottingham and west of Peterborough. Darlington F
Darlington is a market town in the Borough of Darlington, County Durham, England. The River Skerne flows through the town; it is a tributary of the River Tees. The Tees itself flows south of the town. In the 19th century, Darlington underwent substantial industrial development, spurred by the establishment there of the world's first permanent steam-locomotive-powered passenger railway: the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Much of the vision (and financing) behind the railway's creation was provided by local Quaker families in the Georgian and Victorian eras. Southend-on-Sea (), commonly referred to as Southend (), is a coastal city and unitary authority area with borough status in southeastern Essex, England. It lies on the north side of the Thames Estuary, east of central London. It is bordered to the north by Rochford and to the west by Castle Point. Paul Kitson
Paul Kitson (born 9 January 1971) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. He notably played in the Premier League for Newcastle United and West Ham United, as well as in the Football League with Leicester City, Derby County, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion, Rushden & Diamonds, and Aldershot Town. He was capped seven times by England U21, scoring 3 goals. Career Leicester City Kitson began his career as a trainee at Leicester City in 1988. In one season at Leicester, Kitson and Ian Baraclough, his striking partner, scored 60 or so goals between them for the youth and reserve sides. Baraclough was sold to Grimsby Town, while Kitson scored 11 goals in 63 appearances for the Leicester first-team, and joined Derby County for a club record of £1.3 million transfer fee in March 1992, made up of £800,000 with Phil Gee and Ian Ormondroyd moving to Leicester in part exchange. Colin Gibson (footballer, Born 1960)
Colin John Gibson (born 6 April 1960) is an English former footballer. He was an attacking left back who could also play in midfield. In a 17-year career, he scored 34 goals in 448 league and cup appearances, and also won caps for the England under-21 and England B teams. Gibson started his career at Aston Villa in 1978 and made around 200 appearances for the club in seven years, as well as winning the First Division title, the European Cup and the European Super Cup. He moved on to Manchester United in 1985, and during his five years at United he played 79 league games. He signed with Leicester City in 1990, after a short loan at Port Vale. After a four-year spell with the "Foxes" in which he helped the club to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 1994, he transferred to Blackpool, before finishing his career by winning promotion out of the Third Division with Walsall in 1995.
