These are the official results of the Women's Shot Put event at the 1991 IAAF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. The first events resembling the modern shot put likely occurred in the Middle Ages when soldiers held competitions in which they hurled cannonballs. Svetla Ivanova Mitkova-Sınırtaş ( bg, Светла Иванова Миткова-Sınırtaş; born June 17, 1964, in Medovo, Bulgaria) is a retired athlete who competed in shot put and discus throw. Myrtle Sharon Mary Augee (born 4 February 1965 in Greenwich, Greater London) is a female retired English shot putter. Augee now works as a custodial manager in a prison and received an MBE in the Queen’s 2009 birthday honours list. Athletics career Augee represented Great Britain in the 1988 Summer Olympics and 1992 Summer Olympics. She competed at four Commonwealth Games and won a medal on all four occasions. Representing England in 1986 she won a bronze medal, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Four years later she represented England and won a gold medal, at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Ramona Pagel
Ramona Pagel (born Ramona Ebert, November 10, 1961 in Los Angeles) is a retired American shot putter. She made four consecutive Olympic teams, 1984-1996, four IAAF World Championships and won a full set of medals in three showings at the Pan American Games. Her personal best put was 20.18 metres, achieved in June 1988 in San Diego. That mark was the American record for 25 years. The record was tied 23 years later by Jillian Camarena-Williams in 2011 and was finally beaten by Michelle Carter at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Two days before her record was beaten, Stamatia Scarvelis, coached by Pagel, won the Junior National Championship at the same meet. Ramona attended Schurr High School in Montebello, California. Marina Antonyuk (russian: Марина Антонюк; born 12 May 1962) is a Russian former track and field athlete who competed in the shot put. She set a personal best of in 1986. Stephanie Storp
Stephanie Storp (born 28 November 1968 in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony) is a retired female shot putter from Germany. Her best performance was winning the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships, with a throw of 19.22 metres. She also won the silver medal at the 1993 World Indoor Championships, and represented her country in the Summer Olympics of 1992 and 1996. She ended her athletics career in 1998, having taken up basketball as a new sport. Athletics career As a teenager she won the bronze medal at the 1985 European Junior Championships. Hanan Ahmed Khaled ( ar, حنان احمد خالد; born 23 March 1963) is an Egyptian female former track and field athlete, who specialised in the shot put and discus throw events. She is the most successful female athlete in the history of Egyptian track and field, winning a total of two gold medals in All-Africa Games, four gold, five silver and two bronze medals in African Athletics Championships in discus throw and shot put.
