1991 European Cup Final
The 1991 European Cup Final was a football match held at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari, Italy, on 29 May 1991, that saw Red Star Belgrade of Yugoslavia defeat Marseille of France in a penalty shoot-out. After normal time and extra time could not separate the two sides, the match was to be decided on penalty kicks. Manuel Amoros's miss for the French side proved crucial, as Red Star held their nerve to win their first and, as of 2022, only European Cup. Teams Road to the final Pre-match Red Star arrived in Italy unusually early, on Thursday, 23 May 1991, six full days ahead of the final. 1990–91 European Cup
The 1990–91 European Cup was the 36th season of the European Cup, a tournament for men's football clubs in nations affiliated to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It was won for the first time by Red Star Belgrade on penalties in the final against Marseille; both were first-time finalists. This was only the second time that an Eastern European side had won the competition, after Steaua București of Romania in 1986. It was also the last tournament to be solely knock-out based, with a group stage added for the next season. Red Star won the tournament as the only Yugoslavian club shortly before the breakup of Yugoslavia. This was also the last season to feature a team from East Germany, since the East and its West counterpart reunified in October 1990. Srđan Mrkušić
Srđan Mrkušić (May 26, 1915 – October 30, 2007) was a Serbian football goalkeeper, legendary "third back" and forestry engineer. With a long professional football career that spanned more than two decades, he is known for representing Yugoslavia at the 1950 World Cup as well as for being one of only seven footballers who represented both the pre and post World War II national team. He also went down in history as one of the founders of Red Star Belgrade football club in early March 1945 and the first goalkeeper of the Serbian nation team. Dragoslav Šekularac
Dragoslav Šekularac ( sr-Cyrl, Драгослав Шекуларац, ; 8 November 1937 – 5 January 2019) was a Serbian professional footballer and coach. Nicknamed Šeki, he was quick and crafty with the ball, displaying creative skills which turned many heads. Possessing supreme self-confidence along with impeccable technical ability, he was one of the biggest showmen and crowd draws in the history of Yugoslav football. Rajko Mitić ( sr-Cyrl, Рајко Митић, ; 19 November 1922 – 29 March 2008) was a Serbian footballer, coach, executive and journalist. Mitić is considered one of the most important players in the history of Red Star Belgrade as he is the first out of only five players to have been awarded the ''Zvezdina zvezda''.
