1990 WASFL Season
The 1990 WASFL season was the 106th season of senior Australian rules football in Perth, Western Australia. It saw the league, already realising that the damage from the admission to the VFL of would be permanent rather than temporary as was hoped in 1986, rebrand itself as the Western Australia State Football League, but the move was unsuccessful and reversed after a single season. The refusal of WASFL clubs to permit an Eagles reserves team in the WASFL and the WAFC's refusal to accept one in the AFL's reserve grade competition led to further problems when Claremont said they would not play West Coast discards in the league team and produced a short-lived draft for such players, whilst at the same time Claremont rejected a proposed draft for the numerous young footballers who came from Perth's private schools but when not boarding lived in rural areas. Glen Bartlett
Glen Bartlett (born 6 October 1964) was the chairman of the Melbourne Football Club and a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and East Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Biography Bartlett was used mostly as a key forward at East Perth. He joined West Coast for their inaugural VFL season in 1987 and won their 'Best Clubman' award after playing four games for the year. Despite this he was delisted and returned to East Perth with whom he kicked 69 goals in 1990 to win the Bernie Naylor Medal. He received another chance to play in the VFL when he was recruited by the Brisbane Bears, but Bartlett refused to move from Perth. Claremont Oval
Claremont Oval, also known by naming rights sponsorship as Revo Fitness Stadium, is an Australian rules football stadium located in Perth, Western Australia. The stadium, opened in as "Claremont Recreation Ground", seats . It is the home of the Claremont Football Club, an Australian rules football club that plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL), the state's premier Australian rules competition. Before 1925, the stadium served as a cricket and soccer ground, with no fence, native bush on the eastern side, near the Claremont Showground, and the remaining area a sandy wasteland. The council spent A£5000 to bring the ground up to standard for WAFL level football in 1925, including the dumping of rubbish around the perimeter to create the sloping banks, and the construction of a grandstand, as a result of Claremont-Cottesloe's admittance to the "A" Grade of the WAFL competition for the 1926 season. Todd Ridley
Todd Ridley (born 11 February 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer. He played mainly as a Australian rules football positions#Full forward, full forward. He is notable for kicking Fremantle Football Club's first goal in the Australian Football League, AFL. AFL career During his seven years in the Australian Football League he played for three clubs, Essendon Football Club, Essendon, Fremantle Football Club, Fremantle and Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn. Phil Narkle
Phillip Michael Narkle (born 29 January 1961) is a former Australian rules football player of Indigenous Australian descent who played for and in the Australian Football League (AFL) and Swan Districts Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) during the mid-late 1970s and early 1990s. Younger brother of Keith Narkle (by nine years) who also played for Swan Districts, Phil generally played on the wing position. Regarded as a highly skilled and determined footballer with tremendous pace, Phil was perfectly suited to the wing position where he could turn defence into attack. Brian Peake
Brian Francis Peake OAM (born 4 December 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for and in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), and in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also played State of Origin football for Western Australia from 1978 to 1987, captaining the side in 1979, 1980, 1986 and 1987. Peake was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1990 and was inducted into the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2004, and into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Laurie Keene
Lawrence Kimberley Brett "Laurie" Keene (born 2 January 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the VFL/AFL. Tall and athletic, Laurie Keene was recruited to West Coast from Subiaco, where he had been a member of premiership sides in 1986 and 1988. He could play as a key position forward or in the ruck and had topped Subiaco's goalkicking in 1985 with 70 goals as well as winning their 'Fairest and best' award in 1986. He kicked West Coast's first goal (and score) in VFL/AFL football. His career at West Coast was often interrupted by injury, most notably an Achilles tendon injury which ended his VFL/AFL career, but he had a solid debut season with 25 goals, which included a then club record haul of six against Carlton at Princes Park. Peter Mann
Peter Travis Mann (born 7 September 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer. who played a total of 118 matches in the AFL for the North Melbourne and Fremantle Football Clubs. Peter is currently residing in Perth. Claremont and North Melbourne After playing 22 senior games in his debut season for Claremont, including their win in the WAFL Grand Final, Mann was drafted by the West Coast Eagles as a pre-draft priority selection in the 1989 VFL Draft. He remained on the Eagles' list for the 1990 season, but did not play a game for them. Fremantle Oval
Fremantle Oval, also known by naming rights sponsorship as Fremantle Community Bank Oval, is a stadium in the centre of Fremantle, Western Australia, located on Parry Street. It currently has a capacity of 17,500 with terracing and a members area holding 750, though capacity was capped at 10,000 for Fremantle AFLW games. Fremantle Oval was originally used for cricket, but in 1895 hosted its first game of Australian rules football and Australian Football quickly became the main attraction leading to the development of the ground.
