1990 European Athletics Championships – Men's High Jump
These are the official results of the Men's high jump event at the 1990 European Championships in Split, Yugoslavia, held at Stadion Poljud on 29 and 31 August 1990. High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing. Since ancient times, competitors have introduced increasingly effective techniques to arrive at the current form, and the current universally preferred method is the Fosbury Flop, in which athletes run towards the bar and leap head first with their back to the bar. The discipline is, alongside the pole vault, one of two vertical clearance events in the Olympic athletics program. It is contested at the World Championships in Athletics and the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and is a common occurrence at track and field meets. The high jump was among the first events deemed acceptable for women, having been held at the 1928 Olympic Games. Labros Papakostas ( el, Λάμπρος Παπακώστας, born 20 October 1969 in Karditsa) is a retired Greece, Greek high jumper who won two silver medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics, World Indoor Championships in 1995 and 1997. His personal best, achieved in Athens in 1992, was 2.36 metres, when he took the Greek national record from Panagiotis Kontaxakis. Håkon Särnblom
Håkon Särnblom (born 3 March 1966) is a retired Norwegian high jumper. He represented IK Tjalve and IF Minerva during his active career. He finished tenth at the 1988 European Indoor Championships, fourteenth at the 1990 European Indoor Championships, sixth at the 1994 European Indoor Championships, fourth at the 1994 European Championships and tenth at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as the World Championships in 1991 and 1995 without reaching the finals. He became Norwegian champion in the years 1986, 1988-1990 and 1992. Särnblom made a brief comeback at the 2006 Norwegian championships, representing Haugesund IL, but failed to clear his opening height at the competition. His personal best jump was 2.31 metres, achieved in August 1994 in Helsinki. This makes him the second best high jumper in Norwegian history after Steinar Hoen. Brendan Reilly (athlete)
Brendan Anthony John Reilly (born 23 December 1972 in Shipley, West Yorkshire) is a retired two-time Olympic high jumper. Athletics career Reilly won medals at the 1992 IAAF World Cup in Cuba and bronze at the 1995 Summer Universiade. 5 times English Schools Champion, former world record holder for 15 year olds (2.12 m), five times British Senior Champion, European and World Schools Champion. Broke the British junior record at 17 with 2m 27 cm in May 1990. First British teenager to jump over 2.30 m and a personal best of 2.32 m. He represented England in the high jump event, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Four years later he represented England in the high jump again, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Artur Jerzy Partyka (born 25 July 1969 in Stalowa Wola, Poland) is a former Polish high jumper and two-time Olympic medalist. He won twelve national titles in a row, starting in 1989. He represented ŁKS Łódź. His father is Algerian, his mother is Polish. He was one of the leading high jumpers of the 1990s. Partyka is one of only 21 competitors to clear the height of 2.38 metres or more. With that height he set the Polish record in high jump. He won the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. His personal best jump is 2.36 metres, achieved at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. He has a personal indoor best of 2.37 metres. Grant appeared at five consecutive Commonwealth Games. He represented England in the high jump, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
