The 1989 World Fencing Championships were held in Denver, United States from July 5 to July 15. Overview The United States applied to organise World Fencing Championships as soon as the 1986 congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Pavel Anatolyevich Kolobkov (russian: link=no, Павел Анатольевич Колобков, born 22 September 1969) is a retired Russian (and formerly Soviet) épée Fencing, fencer. He won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals at five Olympic Games from 1988 to 2004. He served as the Ministry of Sport (Russia), Minister of Sport in the Russian government from 2016 to 2020. Angelo Mazzoni (born 3 April 1961, in Milan) is an Italian épée fencer who competed at six consecutive Olympics between 1980 and 2000, winning gold in 1996 and 2000. Career He was the eighth fencer, and the first Italian fencer, to compete at six Olympics. He was the third Italian, after Piero and Raimondo D'Inzeo, to compete at six Olympics. At the World Championships, he placed third in 1983 and second in 1990. At the European Championships, he came first in 1981 and third in 1983. He was coached by Italian coach Gianni Muzio. The sabre (US English: ''saber'', both pronounced ) is one of the three disciplines of modern fencing. The sabre weapon is for thrusting and cutting with both the cutting edge and the back of the blade (unlike other modern fencing weapons, the épée and foil, where the methods of making a hit are scored using only the point of the blade). Mauro Numa (born 8 November 1961 in Mestre) is an Italian fencer and one of the strongest during the 1980s.His career started very early and in 1979, at 18, he was included in the Foil's Italian Team. In 1980 Numa could not compete at the Moscow Olympic Games due to the boycott. Biography In 1984 at 22 he competed at the Los Angeles Olympic Games winning gold in the individual and team foil events. In the final for the Individual Title Numa won over Matthias Behr.
