1988 San Diego Chargers Season
The 1988 San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's 19th season in the National Football League, its 29th overall and the second and final full season under head coach Al Saunders. This was the first season after the retirement of Dan Fouts, who had been the Chargers' starting quarterback for the majority of games over the past 15 seasons. The new-look passing attack struggled in his absence, ranking 26th out of 28 teams. San Diego team failed to improve on their 8–7 record in 1987 and finished 6-10: following a 2-2 start, they lost six straight games to drop out of the playoff race. Saunders was fired the day after the season finale, amid rumours of friction between the head coach and Director of Football Operations Steve Ortmayer. The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division comprises the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. Jim Lachey
James Michael Lachey (born June 4, 1963) is a radio analyst for Ohio State football and a former American football offensive tackle who played for ten seasons in the National Football League with the San Diego Chargers, Los Angeles Raiders, and Washington Redskins. Lachey graduated from St. Henry High School and then played college football at Ohio State University, where he was an All-American offensive guard. He was a three-time Pro Bowl player in 1987 with the Chargers, and 1990 and 1991 with the Redskins as a member of " The Hogs." He helped the Redskins win Super Bowl XXVI. Lawrence Anthony Miller (born April 15, 1965) is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Tennessee. Early years Miller attended John Muir High School in Pasadena, California, where he was a track standout, winning the 400 metres at the CIF Southern Section meet in 1983. He also competed in the long jump, 100 metres (10.3 seconds), 200 metres (20.6 seconds) and relay events. He joined a football team for the first time in his life as a senior, at the urging of head coach Jim Brownfield. Arthur Dean Cox (born February 5, 1961) is a former American football tight end in the National Football League. Playing college football at Texas Southern University, he went undrafted, and signed with the Atlanta Falcons before the 1983 season. He eventually became the Falcons' full-time starting tight end and had his most productive seasons in 1984 and 1985 (where he had a career high 454 receiving yards).
