1987 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 1987 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place in Vienna, Austria in August 1987. Fourteen events were contested, 12 for men (5 for professionals, 7 for amateurs) and 2 for women. Jesper Worre
Jesper Worre, (born 5 June 1959) is a former Danish professional bicycle racer and a former director of the Danmarks Cykle Union (DCU) by the board of directors. Biography Worre competed in the team time trial event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He was a professional between 1982 and 1992 and took part in the 1989 Tour de France, finishing 88th in the general classification. Worre has once been tested positive for amineptine in 1992, he confessed to the use of doping, receiving a conditional suspension. Amineptine is a mild but pleasant stimulant and a fast-acting mood-brightener. Amineptine had been on the doping list for a couple of months before Worres confession of using amineptine, and was removed again from the list of banned performance-enhancing drugs shortly after. Worre was caught a doping a second time, making him the only Danish rider aside from Kim Andersen to be caught doping multiple times. Martin Vinnicombe
James “Martin” Vinnicombe (born 5 December 1964) is a former professional Australian track cyclist who competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, winning a silver medal in time trial. He tested positive for steroids in 1991, but accusations were overturned and Vinnicombe received $240,000 in compensation for false allegations in defamation. His former manager, Phill Bates, told the '' Sydney Morning Herald'' in 1996: "If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying." Werner August Josef Betz (1 September 1912 – 13 July 1980) was a German philologist who was Chair of German and Nordic Philology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Biography Werner Betz was born in Frankfurt, Germany on 1 September 1912. He gained a PhD in 1936 with a dissertation on Latin influence on Germanic. From 1937 to 1940, with a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Betz was a research assistant of Theodor Frings. He served in the Kriegsmarine during World War II. After the war, Betz became Chair of German and Nordic Philology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He died in Munich on 13 July 1980. Betz was considered an expert on Germanic Antiquity. His writings on Germanic mythology were influenced by the theories of Georges Dumézil. Daniel "Danny" Clark OAM (born 30 August 1951 in George Town, Tasmania, Australia) is a retired track cyclist and road bicycle racer from Australia, who was a professional rider from 1974 to 1997. He won five world championships and at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, came second in the 1,000m time trial. Clark was often fastest finishing rider in six-day races, especially as Patrick Sercu slowed after the mid-1970s. Clark and the British rider, Tony Doyle, won many six-day races. Clark enjoyed the party atmosphere of the races, and continued to work in them as a Derny pacer after retiring. Biography Clark began cycling on a bike borrowed from a local enthusiast, which he used for three months before acquiring his eldest brother's semi-racer.
