The PBA on Vintage Sports was a branding used for presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games produced by Vintage Sports, a sports-oriented media company and was aired on Philippine television networks City2 Television from 1982 to 1984, Maharlika Broadcasting System (later renamed as People's Television Network) from 1985 to 1995, and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation from 1996 to 1999. History In 1982, the PBA awarded the broadcast rights of its games to Vintage Enterprises, Inc., a company owned by Carlos "Bobong" Velez and signed a P5.4 million deal with the league. 1987 Tanduay Rhum Makers Season
The 1987 Tanduay Rhum Makers season was the 13th and final season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Transactions Notable dates March 22: Tanduay overturned Great Taste on import David Thirdkill's shot with a foul from Michael Young in the last three seconds to escape with a 105-104 protested win in the second game of the season opener. The Rhum Makers rallied from 16 points down in the final quarter and Thirdkill intentionally missed his free throw and the ball didn't hit the rim, the referees failed to see the violation resulting to Great Taste's Ricardo Brown missing a hurried three-point attempt at the buzzer. Ernesto Jose Francisco "Joey" Cuerva Loyzaga (born September 23, 1961) is a Filipino people, Filipino retired professional basketball player. Collegiate / Amateur career Loyzaga broke into the hoops limelight as a Red Cub for San Beda Red Lions, San Beda College in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines). He was elevated to the senior Red Lions where he spent the next three years as a starter for then-SBC coach Loreto Carbonell. Starting in 1980, Loyzaga saw action in the Interclub and MICAA tournaments. He moved from Mendiola to the Legarda campus of the Arellano University because of the strict policy of the NCAA regarding participation in commercial leagues. Michael Hackett (basketball)
Michael Hackett (born May 11, 1960) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was the Liga Profesional de Baloncesto MVP in 1984, and the Israeli League Top Scorer in 1991. Basketball career He attended Jacksonville University, where he was considered by University of Alabama at Birmingham coach Gene Bartow as "the best 6-5 player in America." Hackett was drafted in 1982 by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 21st pick of the 3rd round of that year's National Basketball Association draft, but was released before the season started. He also played overseas, including in the Philippines for Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association. Norman Augustus Black (born November 12, 1957) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the CBA, NBA, and PBA. He's the current head coach for the Meralco Bolts. The Philippine Institute of Sports Multi-Purpose Arena or PhilSports Arena is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena located inside the PhilSports Complex in Pasig, Philippines. The Tanduay Rhum Makers (1975-1987) and Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999-2001) were two basketball franchises associated with the same liquor brand that played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The original franchise, owned by Elizalde & Co., Inc., was a founding member of the PBA. From 1975-1980, the team played under the name Tanduay Distillery; Tanduay ESQ and Tanduay Esquires; then as, YCO-Tanduay in 1981-1983. The final name used by the original franchise was the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1983-1987). The original franchise won a total of three PBA championships. The 1987 Formula Shell Spark Aiders season was the third season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as Shell Azocord Super Bugbusters in the Reinforced Conference. Transactions Trades Occurrences Head coach Edgardo Ocampo was replaced by national team coach Joe Lipa starting the Third Conference after two dismal conferences by the team. Import Dexter Shouse suddenly left after leading Shell to six wins and two losses in the Third Conference, taking his place is another former Shell import Dwight Anderson.
