1987 NHL Entry Draft
The 1987 NHL Entry Draft was the 25th NHL Entry Draft. It was held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, and was the first draft held in the United States. The National Hockey League (NHL) teams selected 252 players eligible for entry into professional ranks, in the reverse order of the 1986–87 NHL season and playoff standings. This is the list of those players selected. The last active player in the NHL from this draft class was Mathieu Schneider, who retired after the 2009–10 season. Joe Louis Arena
Joe Louis Arena was an arena in Downtown Detroit. Completed in 1979 at a cost of US$57 million as a replacement for Olympia Stadium, it sat adjacent to TCF Center, Cobo Center on the bank of the Detroit River and was accessible by the Joe Louis Arena station on the Detroit People Mover. The venue was named after former heavyweight champion Boxer (boxing), boxer Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. It was the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the second oldest NHL venue after Madison Square Garden until the start of the 2017–18 NHL season. Joe Louis Arena was owned by the city of Detroit, and operated by Olympia Entertainment, a subsidiary of team owner Ilitch Holdings. New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils are a professional sports, professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. The Devils compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The Seattle Thunderbirds are a major junior ice hockey team based in the city of Kent, Washington, south of Seattle. Chris Joseph (ice Hockey)
Robin Christopher Joseph (born September 10, 1969) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes and Atlanta Thrashers. Playing career Joseph was drafted 5th overall by the Penguins in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut for the Penguins during the 1987–88 NHL season but was quickly traded to the Edmonton Oilers in the same season. The deal saw Joseph, Dave Hannan, Moe Mantha and Craig Simpson move to the Oilers with Paul Coffey, Dave Hunter and Wayne Van Dorp moving to Pittsburgh. Medicine Hat Tigers
The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1970, the team has won two national Memorial Cups, five WHL League Championships and seven Division Titles, and continues to rally for the Cup annually. Starting in the 2015–16 season, the Tigers have begun play at Co-op Place after forty-five seasons at the Medicine Hat Arena. Wayne McBean
Wayne A. "Beaner" McBean (born February 21, 1969) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. McBean played professionally in the National Hockey League with the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders, and Winnipeg Jets. Playing career During his junior career, McBean played in the WHL for Medicine Hat Tigers, notably accumulating 85 assists over three years. He was also a member of two Memorial Cup-winning teams in 1987 and 1988. Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring.
