1987 Labatt Brier
The 1987 Labatt Brier, the Canadian men's curling championship, was held from March 8 to 15 at the Northlands Agricom in Edmonton, Alberta. Russ Howard of Ontario defeated Bernie Sparkes of British Columbia to win his first Brier title. Edmonton
Edmonton ( ) is the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta. Edmonton is situated on the North Saskatchewan River and is the centre of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, which is surrounded by Alberta's central region. Randy Ferbey
Randy S. Ferbey (born May 30, 1959) is a Canadian retired curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Ferbey is a six-time Canadian champion and a four-time World Champion. He currently coaches the Rachel Homan women's team. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Ferbey notably popularized the system of having the skip throw third rocks, when he skipped the team nicknamed "the Ferbey Four", a team with which he won four Briers (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005) and narrowly missed winning the 2004 final after giving up a 7–3 lead to Mark Dacey. Others teams in both men's and women's curling have adopted the system of not having the skip throw last stones, such as the Margaretha Sigfridsson rink, who would win winning an Olympic Silver and numerous World silvers and Europeans golds by skipping while throwing lead stones, and Jim Cotter throwing last rocks for John Morris who would together reach the finals of both 2014 Olympic Curling Trials and 2014 Brier. Keith Kyle (4 August 1925, Sturminster Newton, Dorset – 21 February 2007, London) was a British writer, broadcaster and historian. Early life Kyle was educated at Bromsgrove School and Magdalen College, Oxford University, where his period as an undergraduate was broken by war service. Brandon () is the second-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Brandon Curling Club
The Brandon Curling Club is a curling club located in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. The club is one of four in the city. The club was founded in 1889-90 at the corner of Manitoba Highway 1A, Victoria Ave and Manitoba Highway 10, 18th St in Downtown Brandon. The club was moved further south in 1953 to the Provincial Exhibition Grounds. Three years later, a fire destroyed the rink, but it as re-built by Fall 1956. Two years later, artificial ice was installed, before fire destroyed the rink once again in 1964. Four months after the fire, it was once again rebuilt. The club was re-located to a different site at the exhibition grounds in 1969-70. The club was added to the Keystone Centre arena in 1992, becoming an 8 sheet club in the process. Jim Armstrong (curler)
James P. Armstrong (born June 30, 1950) is a former Canadian curler and wheelchair curler now living in Ontario. He was a successful able-bodied curler for much of his career until he had to stop playing because of bad knees and a car accident in 2003. Career Curling career Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Armstrong began curling at eight, and by the age of 22 he made his first Brier, playing second for British Columbia, skipped by Jack Tucker. The team finished 5–5 at that 1973 MacDonald Brier. Armstrong skipped B.C. in the following Brier, placing third with a 6–4 record. Armstrong wouldn't make another Brier for 9 years, when he played third for Bernie Sparkes at the 1983 Labatt Brier. The team finished third once again, losing to Ontario's Ed Werenich in the semi-final. The team made the 1984 Labatt Brier in Victoria, but only finished 6–5.
