1986–87 Scottish Inter-District Championship
The 1986–87 Scottish Inter-District Championship was a rugby union competition for Scotland's district teams. This season saw the 34th formal Scottish Inter-District Championship. Edinburgh District won the competition with four wins. Midlands fixtures for the season. Edinburgh District (rugby Union)
Edinburgh District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Edinburgh area, as well as others from the rest of east central Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Lothian regional council area. Historically the Edinburgh District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Edinburgh District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Glasgow District rugby union team. The amateur Edinburgh District side evolved into the professional Edinburgh Rugby side in 1996; one year after rugby union allowed professionalism in 1995. Alex Brewster
Alexander Kinloch Brewster (born 3 May 1954) is a former rugby union player who gained six caps for the Scotland national rugby union team. He played as a prop for Stewart's Melville RFC. Early life Brewster was born on 3 May 1954 in Dechmont, West Lothian. He was educated at Melville College in Edinburgh. Rugby Union career Amateur career Brewster captained Stewart’s Melville FPs. Provincial career Brewster captained Edinburgh District. He played for the Reds Trial side in their match against Blues Trial on 3 January 1987. International career Brewster's first international appearance was against England at Twickenham on 15 January 1977. This was his first as three caps as flanker. Alan Tait
Alan Victor Tait (born 2 November 1964) is a former Scottish dual-code rugby footballer, and now coach. He is a Defence Coach at the Super 6 side Southern Knights. He was previously head coach at Newcastle Falcons and a former rugby union and professional rugby league footballer. He played outside centre for Scotland (RU), and the British and Irish Lions. He played club rugby union for Kelso, Edinburgh and the Newcastle Falcons; and club rugby league for Widnes and Leeds. Tait changed codes twice in his life, once going from rugby union to rugby league, and then going the other way after union became professional during the mid-1990s. Rugby Union Unlike many other cross-code converts of the period, Tait had the benefit of growing up in Cumbria, where his father, Alan Senior, was playing for Workington Town. Iwan Tukalo
Iwan Tukalo (born 5 March 1961) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. His regular playing position was Wing. Rugby Union career Amateur career The son of a Ukrainian father and Italian mother, Tukalo was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh He went on to play for Royal HSFP. Tukalo then moved to play for Selkirk. Provincial career Tukalo played for Edinburgh District in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. On moving to Selkirk, Tukalo then played for South of Scotland. Tukalo played for the Whites Trial side on 7 January 1984. The following year Tukalo moved up in contention and played for the Blues Trial side in their first match against the Reds Trial side. He was selected for Blues again in 1986, the Reds winning that match.
