The 1986–87 Scottish Inter-District Championship was a rugby union competition for Scotland's district teams. This season saw the 34th formal Scottish Inter-District Championship. Edinburgh District (rugby Union)
Edinburgh District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Edinburgh area, as well as others from the rest of east central Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Lothian regional council area. Historically the Edinburgh District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Edinburgh District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Glasgow District rugby union team. The amateur Edinburgh District side evolved into the professional Edinburgh Rugby side in 1996; one year after rugby union allowed professionalism in 1995. Alex Brewster
Alexander Kinloch Brewster (born 3 May 1954) is a former rugby union player who gained six caps for the Scotland national rugby union team. He played as a prop for Stewart's Melville RFC. Early life Brewster was born on 3 May 1954 in Dechmont, West Lothian. He was educated at Melville College in Edinburgh. Rugby Union career Amateur career Brewster captained Stewart’s Melville FPs. Alan Tait
Alan Victor Tait (born 2 November 1964) is a former Scottish dual-code rugby footballer, and now coach. He is a Defence Coach at the Super 6 side Southern Knights. He was previously head coach at Newcastle Falcons and a former rugby union and professional rugby league footballer. He played outside centre for Scotland (RU), and the British and Irish Lions. He played club rugby union for Kelso, Edinburgh and the Newcastle Falcons; and club rugby league for Widnes and Leeds. Tait changed codes twice in his life, once going from rugby union to rugby league, and then going the other way after union became professional during the mid-1990s. Iwan Tukalo
Iwan Tukalo (born 5 March 1961) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. His regular playing position was Wing. Rugby Union career Amateur career The son of a Ukrainian father and Italian mother, Tukalo was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh He went on to play for Royal HSFP. Tukalo then moved to play for Selkirk. Provincial career Tukalo played for Edinburgh District in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. On moving to Selkirk, Tukalo then played for South of Scotland. Tukalo played for the Whites Trial side on 7 January 1984. Chris Gray (rugby Union)
Christopher Antony Gray (born 11 July 1960 in Haddington, East Lothian) is a former Scottish international rugby player who played most of his club rugby in England. He gained 22 caps for Scotland national rugby union team including five appearances at the 1991 Rugby World Cup. He is qualified as a dentist and helps coach at the school Trent College in Long Eaton. Club career Between 1978 and 1983, Gray turned out for Edinburgh Academical. In 1983 he joined Nottingham R.F.C., and played 243 matches for the Green and Whites (scoring 60 points) until retiring in 1997. Brian Robertson (born 9 August 1959 in Scotland) is a Scottish former rugby union player and coach. He formerly played for the professional provincial side now known as Glasgow Warriors. Robertson played for Glasgow in the 1996-97 season. His usual position was at tighthead prop. Rugby Union career Amateur career Robertson played amateur rugby for Stirling County.
