1986 Intercontinental Cup
The 1986 Intercontinental Cup was an association football match played on 14 December 1986 between River Plate of Argentina, winners of the 1986 Copa Libertadores, and Steaua București of Romania, winners of the 1985–86 European Cup. The match was played in front of 62,000 fans at the neutral venue of the National Stadium in Tokyo. Antonio Alzamendi was named as man of the match and scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute when he headed into the net after his initial shot had hit the post and then came back off the goalkeeper. Oscar Alfredo Ruggeri (born 26 January 1962) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as centre-back. Nicknamed ''El Cabezón'' ("The Big-Headed One"), Ruggeri achieved success at the international level with the Argentina national team, being part of the teams that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup, two editions of the Copa América and the 1992 King Fahd Cup. Miodrag Belodedici (; sr, Миодраг Белодедић, Miodrag Belodedić; born 20 May 1964) is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as a sweeper. Ștefan Iovan
Ştefan Iovan (born 23 August 1960) is a Romanian former football player and manager. Iovan played for several clubs, most notably Steaua București, and represented Romania 34 times between 1983 and 1990. Club career Iovan made his debut at CSM Reşiţa in 1977, before joining the squad of Luceafărul București one year later. Luceafărul was then a team formed by the Romanian Football Federation to gather the young talents of Romanian football and did not play in any league. Iovan returned to Reşiţa in 1979, but in the winter of 1981 joined Steaua București where he played for ten years, until 1991. Dan Dumitru Stângaciu, (born 9 August 1964) is a retired Romanian football goalkeeper and a current coach. He is best known for his spell with Steaua Bucharest in the 1980s and 1990s where he won the European Cup in 1986 and the European Super Cup in 1987. Héctor "Bambino" Veira (born May 29, 1946) is a former Argentine footballer and child sex offender. Since retiring as a player he has gone on to win several major titles as a manager. Playing career Veira started his professional career in 1963 with San Lorenzo, in 1964 he became the topscorer in the Argentina Primera División at the age of only 18. In 1967 Veira received his first call up to the Argentina national football team and in 1968 he helped San Lorenzo to win the Metropolitano championship without losing a game, to become the first team in the professional era of Argentine football to become unbeaten champions. Néstor Raúl Gorosito (born 14 May 1964) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He is the current manager of Gimnasia La Plata. Sergio Javier Goycochea (; born 17 October 1963) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is best known for helping his country reach the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final with his penalty kick saves.
