The 1984 US Open was a tennis tournament played on Hardcourt, outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, USTA National Tennis Center in New York City in New York (state), New York in the United States. It was the 104th edition of the US Open and was held from August 28 to September 9, 1984. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. Jaime Yzaga Tori (born 23 October 1967) is a former professional tennis player from Peru. Tennis career As a junior, Yzaga won the French Open in 1985 and reached the semifinals of Wimbledon (also in 1985) and of the US Open (1984). Yzaga played on the professional tour from 1984 to 1996, reaching career-high rankings of world No. 18 in singles and world No. 54 in doubles (both in 1989). Niurka Sodupe (born April 19, 1969) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Sodupe, the daughter of Cuban immigrants, went to Coral Gables Senior High School in Coral Gables, Florida.
