The 1984 Speedway World Pairs Championship was the fifteenth Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Pairs Championship. The final took place in Lonigo, Italy. The championship was won by England national speedway team, England (27 points). Silver medal was won by Denmark national speedway team, Denmark who beat New Zealand national speedway team, New Zealand after Run-Off (both 25 points). Fédération Internationale De Motocyclisme
The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM; en, International Motorcycling Federation) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 116 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions. There are seven motorcycle-racing disciplines that FIM covers, encompassing 82 world championships as well as hundreds of secondary championships: enduro, trial, circuit racing, motocross and supermoto, cross-country, e-bike, and track racing. FIM is also involved in many non-racing activities that promote the sport, its safety, and support relevant public policy. The FIM is also the first international sporting federation to publish an Environmental Code, in 1994. Bulgaria National Speedway Team
The Bulgaria national speedway team were one of the teams that competed in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Bulgarian speedway team first competed at the Speedway World Team Cup during its second edition, finishing fourth in the Central European round at the 1961 Speedway World Team Cup. From 1961, the team competed in almost every World Team Cup until 1992, when the team began to struggle to field a competitive team. Since 2001, when the competition was rebranded the Speedway World Cup the team have not competed at the World Cup and have only appeared once in international fixtures during 2010. As of 2017, the sport was almost dormant, with only one track in Shumen, although there were ten others in a derelict state. The greatest achievement of the team was reaching the final of the Speedway World Pairs Championship in 1969. The Yugoslavia national speedway team were one of the teams that competed in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Yugoslavian speedway team first competed in the Speedway World Team Cup during the 1962 Speedway World Team Cup, finishing second in the central European round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup competitors from 1962 until their final World Cup in 1992. However, they were one of the weaker nations and failed to reach the latter stages of the competition. Adolf "Adi" Funk (1 July 1951 – 27 January 2010) was an Austrian motorcycle speedway rider who won the Austrian Championship four times. Biography Born in Klosterneuburg, Funk rose to prominence in the early 1970s, and by 1974 had the highest average in Austrian speedway.Oakes, Peter & Mauger, Ivan (1976) ''Who's Who of World Speedway'', Studio Publications, , p. 141 He finished in fourth place in the Austrian Championship in 1974 and won it for the first time the following year, also winning the Austrian Pairs Championship (with Alex Taudtmann). The Austria national speedway team are one of the teams that compete in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Austrian speedway team competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup in 1960, finishing third in the central European round. With the exception of a three year spell from 1967 to 1969, Austria were ever present in the World Team Cup from 1960 to 2000. However, they were one of the weaker nations and struggled to qualify for the latter stages of the competition. The team faired better in the World Pairs Championship, reaching finals in 1971 and 1975. Since 2001, Austria have struggled further and have in the majority of cases failed to qualify for the World Cup or the Speedway of Nations (introduced in 2018). Henk Steman
Henk Steman (born 12 September 1948) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from the Netherlands. Career Steman came to prominence after joining the Oxford Rebels for the 1974 British League season. Although he had a poor season he soon became one of the leading riders in the Netherlands after becoming the Dutch champion, when winning the national title in 1976. He returned for another British league campaign for the 1978 British League season with the Bristol Bulldogs. He represented the Netherlands national team for 15 years of World Cups from 1975 to 1988. He also rode for the Netherlands in the Speedway World Pairs Championship and would ride for them 27 times in total. He also won two more national titles in 1981 and 1987. Frits Koppe (born 1 February 1953) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from the Netherlands. Career Koppe came to prominence in 1977 after he became the Dutch champion, when winning the national title. This led to him being signed by the King's Lynn Stars for the 1978 British League season. Despite only spending the one season in the British leagues, Koppe represented the Netherlands national team for 12 years of World Cups from 1975 to 1981 and 1984 to 1986.
