The Copa del Rey de Baloncesto (English: '' King's Cup of Basketball'') is an annual cup competition for Spanish basketball teams organized by Spain's top professional league, the Liga ACB. History Originally known as the ''Copa de España de Baloncesto'', was first played in 1933 and contested in its first editions only by teams from the provinces of Madrid and Barcelona. The Asociación de Clubes Españoles de Baloncesto (Spanish Basketball Clubs Association), more commonly known as the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), is a national sports association responsible for administering the main professional basketball league in Spain - the Liga Endesa. The organisation was founded in 1982. Competition The 18 member clubs of the ACB are grouped into the Liga Endesa. In any given season a club plays each of the others in the same division twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents. This makes for a total of 34 games played each season in Liga Endesa. Clubs gain one point for a win, no points for a defeat. If points are equal, the head-to-head records determine the winner. If still equal, the point difference and then points scored become the deciding factors. 1983–84 ACB Season
The 1983–84 ACB season was the inaugural season of the ACB Primera División, the top Spanish professional basketball league. It started on 10 September 1983 with the first round of the regular season and ended on 13 April 1984 with the finals. The league was made up of the clubs that broke away from Spanish Basketball Federation at the end of the 1982–83 season with the aim to professionalize the league. The new league introduced the best-of-three playoffs at the end of the regular season just like in the Italian league. Club Baloncesto Zaragoza is a basketball team based in Zaragoza, Aragón, who played from 1981 to 1996 in the top Spanish league (Liga ACB since 1983) and now plays in the 1ª División, the fifth tier. Kevin Dornell Magee (January 24, 1959 – October 23, 2003), was an American basketball player who played most of his professional career for Maccabi Tel Aviv. He played at the power forward and center positions. Magee played college basketball for the UCI Irvine Anteaters, earning All-American honors in both seasons. In 1993–94, he led the Israel Basketball Premier League in rebounds. College career Magee went to Southeastern Louisiana University and then the University of Houston, but he was not ready for school, dropping out both times without playing basketball. Performance Index Rating (PIR) is a basketball mathematical statistical formula that is used by the Euroleague Basketball Company's first and second tier competitions, the EuroLeague and the EuroCup, as well as various European national domestic and regional leagues. It is a part of the Tendex basketball rating system. It is also variously referred to as Performance Index Ranking, Rating, Ranking, Evaluation, Valuation, and Efficiency. It is similar to, but not exactly the same as, the NBA's Efficiency (EFF) stat. History Performance Index Rating was created in 1991, by the Spanish ACB League, which started using it to determine the league's MVP of the Week and regular season MVP awards.
