Saint Lucia ( acf, Sent Lisi, french: Sainte-Lucie) is an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra, names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs, two Amerindian peoples. Part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent (Antilles), Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. The Progressive Labour Party was a political party in Saint Lucia. History The party was created by a split of the Saint Lucia Labour Party in 1981. It first contested national elections in 1982, when it finished second behind the United Workers' Party with 27.1% of the vote, but only won a single seat, taken by Jon Odlum.
