House Of Assembly Of Saint Lucia
The House of Assembly is the lower house of the Parliament of Saint Lucia, elected by popular vote. The upper house is the Senate. It has 17 or 18 members: 17 members elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies, and a speaker elected by the 17 members, who may be one of their number or a person chosen from outside the House. To be elected to the house, a person must be at least 21 years old. History House of Assembly was established in 1967 when associated statehood was attained. It replaced the legislative council. John Compton
Sir John George Melvin Compton, (29 April 1925 – 7 September 2007) was a Saint Lucian politician who became the first Prime Minister upon independence in February 1979. Having led Saint Lucia under British rule from 1964 to 1979, Compton served as Prime Minister three times: briefly in 1979, again from 1982 to 1996, and from 2006 until his death in 2007. Peter Josie
Peter Josie is an inactive Saint Lucian politician and trade unionist. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1974 to 1982 and again from 1987 to 1997. He served as President of the Seaman and Waterfront Workers Union, the National Farmers Union, the Technical and Allied Workers Union. He was leader of the St Lucia Labour Party and the Organisation for National Enlightenment. Career Peter Josie was born in Vieux-Fort, the southernmost town of Saint Lucia. Stanley Nicholas Jon Odlum (9 May 1936 – 19 February 2013) was a Saint Lucian politician. Originated from the Saint Lucia Labour Party. Was also a member of the now defunct Progressive Labor Party, led by his brother George Odlum George William Odlum (24 June 1934 – 28 September 2003) was a Saint Lucian left-wing politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Michael Pilgrim
Bryan Michael Pilgrim (born 3 January 1947) is a Saint Lucian politician. He served as 4th Prime Minister of Saint Lucia (Acting Prime Minister) after the resignation of Winston Cenac on 17 January 1982. As agreed he served for four months and on his party's loss in the elections he was succeeded in May 1982 by John Compton, leader of the United Workers' Party. Pilgrim was a member of the Progressive Labour Party. The Progressive Labour Party was a political party in Saint Lucia. History The party was created by a split of the Saint Lucia Labour Party in 1981. It first contested national elections in 1982, when it finished second behind the United Workers' Party with 27.1% of the vote, but only won a single seat, taken by Jon Odlum. In the 6 April 1987 elections the party's vote share fell to 9.3% and they lost their single seat.
