1981 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 1981 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''1981 WJHC'') was the fifth edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and was held from December 27, 1980, until January 2, 1981. The tournament was held in Füssen, West Germany. Sweden won the gold medal, while Finland won the silver, and the Soviet Union bronze. Pool A The 1981 tournament divided participants into two divisions of four teams, each playing three games. The top two teams in each division advanced to the A division in the medal round, while the bottom two were placed in a B division. Each division played another round robin. The top three teams in the A division won the gold, silver and bronze medals. Teams that faced each other in the first round had their results carried over to the medal rounds. Dieter Hegen
Dieter Hegen (born April 29, 1962 in Kaufbeuren, West Germany) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played in the Eishockey-Bundesliga and its replacement the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Playing career Hegen began playing for his hometown ESV Kaufbeuren in 1979. Hegen was drafted 46th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft but never signed a contract and remained with Kaufbeuren until 1985 when he joined Kölner EC, winning the Bundesliga championship in 1987 and 1988. In 1989 he moved to for Düsseldorfer EG and in a three-year spell he won three more Bundesliga titles. In 1992, he joined EC Hedos München and won his sixth and final Bundesliga title with the team in 1994, which turned out to be the last year of the Ice Hockey Bundesliga as it was replaced with the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Bobby Carpenter (ice Hockey)
Robert E. Carpenter Jr. (born July 13, 1963) is an American former professional ice hockey center who was recently head coach of Kunlun Red Star of the Kontinental Hockey League. Prior to that he played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 18 seasons from 1981–82 until 1998–99. In his NHL career that spanned 18 years, Carpenter played 1,178 games, scoring 320 goals and 408 assists for 728 points. He has the distinction of being the second American-born hockey player to be selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft ( Mike Ramsey was the first), and the first player to play in the NHL directly from high school after being drafted. Carpenter was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, but grew up in Peabody, Massachusetts. Jan Erixon
Jan Erixon (born July 8, 1962) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey player. Erixon was the thirtieth overall pick in the second round by the New York Rangers in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL career with the Rangers in the 1983–84 season, and played with them through the 1992–93 season. During his time with the Rangers, his only NHL team, he earned the nickname "The Shadow" because of his work as a defensive forward, often called on to neutralize opposing teams' best players. His son Tim is also a professional ice hockey player and played in the NHL between 2011 and 2015. Miloslav Hořava
Miloslav Hořava (born August 14, 1961) is a Czech ice hockey coach and former player. He played on the Silver medal winning ice hockey team at the 1984 Winter Olympics and bronze medal winning team at the 1992 Winter Olympics for Czechoslovakia. He also played in parts of three seasons for the New York Rangers as a defenceman. From 2002 he was working as a coach in Czech Extraliga. He was coaching HC Znojemští Orli, HC Pardubice, HC Karlovy Vary and BK Mladá Boleslav. In the beginning of the 2004–2005 season he returned to the Znojemští Orli, but in 2006 he left and started coaching Czech National U-20 Team. On April 16, 2009, he signed a two-year contract as the new head coach for Modo Hockey of the Swedish Elitserien, a team where he also played three seasons between 1991 and 1994.
