1980 Campeonato Brasileiro Série B
The 1980 Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, officially, the Taça de Prata 1980, was the 3rd edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. The championship was performed by 64 clubs, divided into 8 groups of 8 teams each, in which the first-placed team of each group proceeded to a playoff in which the winners would be promoted to the Second phase of the Copa Brasil of the same year. The losers would proceed to the second phase of the Taça de Prata, in which 20 teams (the losers of the promotion playoff, and the second and third-placed teams in each group)were divided into four groups of five teams. The winner of each group qualified to the semifinals, disputed in a knockout tournament format, in which the winners were promoted to the Taça de Ouro of the following year. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série B is commonly referred to as the Brasileirão Série B (Série B), and until 2022 was officially called Brasileirão Sportingbet by sponsorship reasons. It is the second tier of the Brazilian football league system. Although not having been played annually since its founding in 1971, the competition format has changed almost every season. History Tuna Luso was founded initially as a musical band. It occurred because the Portuguese cruiser ''Dom Carlos'' was going to visit the port of Belém on November 12, 1902. Some Portuguese youths, residing in the city, decided to found a musical band to receive their fellow countrymen. The name they chose to the band was Tuna Luso Caixeiral. Fast is the second-best ranked team from Amazonas in CBF's national club ranking, behind Manaus. History The club was founded by a group of members and players of the Nacional, who commanded by the leader Vivaldo Lima and the player then captain of the team Rodolpho Gonçalves decided to leave the club. The reason for the discord was a political maneuver of the then president of the Nacional, Leopoldo Mattos with change of the statute of the Nacional on the eve of the presidential election, taking the players the right to vote.
