Fiesta Bowl
The Fiesta Bowl is an American college football bowl game played annually in the Phoenix metropolitan area. From its beginning in 1971 until 2006, the game was hosted at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Since 2007, the game has been played at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Since 2022, it has been sponsored by Vrbo and officially known as the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. Previous sponsors include PlayStation (December 2016–2022), Battlefrog College Championship, BattleFrog (January 2016), Vizio (December 2014), Tostitos (1996–January 2014), IBM (1993–1995) and Sunkist Growers, Incorporated, Sunkist (1986–1990). 1979 Arizona Wildcats Football Team
The 1979 Arizona Wildcats football team represented the University of Arizona in the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) during the 1979 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their third and final season under head coach Tony Mason, the Wildcats compiled a 6–5–1 record (4–3 in Pac-10, third), lost to Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl, and outscored their opponents, 244 to 243. The team played its home games on campus at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Arizona. Arizona's statistical leaders included Jim Krohn with 1,094 passing yards, Hubert Oliver with 1,021 rushing yards, and Tim Holmes with 319 receiving yards. 1994 Fiesta Bowl
The 1994 IBM OS/2 Fiesta Bowl, played on January 1, 1994, was the 23rd edition of the Fiesta Bowl. The game featured the Arizona Wildcats, and the Miami Hurricanes. The game featured the only shutout in Fiesta Bowl history, as Arizona shut-out Miami. The shutout loss was the first for Miami in 168 games, since they lost 30–0 to Alabama on November 17, 1979. The scoring started with Dan White throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Troy Dickey. The ensuing extra point failed, and Arizona settled for a 6–0 lead. Kicker Steve McLaughlin kicked a 39-yard field goal to increase the lead to 9–0, at the end of the 1st quarter. Late in the second quarter, running back Chuck Levy scored on a 68-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 16–0. In the third quarter, McLaughlin added two field goals of 31 and 21 yards respectively, as the Wildcats opened up a 22–0 lead. The 1968 Arizona Wildcats football team represented the University of Arizona in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) during the 1968 NCAA University Division football season. In their second and final season under head coach Darrell Mudra, the Wildcats compiled an 8–3 record (5–1 against WAC opponents), finished in a tie for second place in the WAC, lost to Auburn in the Sun Bowl, and outscored their opponents, 186 to 149.
