1978 Individual Long Track World Championship
The 1978 Individual Long Track World Championship was the eighth edition of the FIM speedway Individual Long Track World Championship. The event was held on 10 September 1978 in Mühldorf, West Germany. The world title was won by Egon Müller of West Germany for third time after he defeated Alois Wiesböck in a run off for the gold medal. Ivan Mauger was unbeaten in his first four rides but then suffered engine problems and Peter Collins would have won the title but in his last race his chain broke and he had to push his bike over the line for one point. Jiri Jirout
Jiri ( ne, जिरी) is a municipality in Dolakha District in the Bagmati Province of central Nepal. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census it had a population of 13,638 people.. Zdeněk Kudrna (born 2 September 1946 in Čisovice, Czechoslovakia - died 1 June 1982) was an international speedway rider who reached he Speedway World Championship final in 1979. Don Godden
Don Vincent Godden (born 13 November 1936 - 28 May 2011) was a Motorcycle rider who competed in Longtrack and Grasstrack Racing. He competed in twelve World Longtrack Championship Finals and won the title in 1969. Don's son Mitchel is also a successful Longtrack and Grasstrack racer, as is his grandson Cameron. Don was very much a Motorcycle racing pioneer, not only was he the first to compete regularly on the continent but was also a successful Motorcycle Racing engineer. He designed many engines for successful Longtrack, Grasstrack and speedway riders. Godden engineering Don started his engineering company in the early 1970s designing frames and then engines. His GR 500 engine was used by many top riders and it soon became a championship winning engine. United States rider Shawn Moran won the Longtrack World Championship with the Godden engine in 1983 and twelve months later at least half of the finalist's all used this same engine. Kristian Præstbro (born 11 December 1954) is a former international speedway rider from Denmark. Speedway career Præstbro won a gold medal at the Speedway World Team Cup in the 1978 Speedway World Team Cup. Although unused he received the medal as one of the five riders named in the team and was at the event ready to ride as a replacement in any heat called upon. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1976 to 1979, riding for Cradley Heath Heathens and Belle Vue Aces. Scott Brian Autrey (born July 9, 1953) is an American former professional motorcycle speedway rider. In 1976, he became the first American rider to reach a speedway world final since Ernie Roccio in 1951. __TOC__ Motorcycle racing career Born in Maywood, California, Autrey began his motorcycle racing career in 1964 by competing in flat track racing at Perris Auto Speedway. In 1968, he had a major off-road racing victory when he won the 100cc class in the Rosarita Grand Prix in Mexico. He also competed in road racing, placing second in the novice road race class held before the 1971 Daytona 200. In 1972, Autrey finished second in the United States Speedway National Championship.
