Kerry Melville, Kerry Reid defeated Dianne Fromholtz in the final, 7–5 6–2 to win the January Edition women's singles tennis title at the 1977 Australian Open. Kerry Melville
Kerry Melville Reid (née Melville; born 7 August 1947) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. During her 17-year career, Reid won one Grand Slam singles title and 26 other singles titles and was the runner-up in 40 singles tournaments. Reid was included in the year-end world top-ten rankings for 12 consecutive years (1968–1979). She won at least one tournament annually from 1966 through 1979, except for 1975. Her career-high ranking was world No. 5 in 1971, behind Margaret Court, Billie Jean King, Evonne Goolagong, and Rosie Casals. Career Melville won 27 singles tournaments and was runner-up in 37 more between 1963 and 1979. Judy Tegart-Dalton
Judy Tegart Dalton (née Tegart; born 12 December 1937) is an Australian former professional tennis player. She won nine major doubles titles, and completed the career Grand Slam in women's doubles. Five of her doubles titles were with Margaret Court. Tegart was also a runner-up in 10 major doubles tournaments. Career Tegart reached the final at Wimbledon in 1968, where she lost to Billie Jean King in two tight sets after defeating second-seeded Court in the quarterfinal and third-seeded Nancy Richey in the semifinal. She also reached the singles semifinals at Wimbledon in 1971 at the age of 33, losing to Court in three sets, and at the Australian Championships in 1968, losing to King in three sets. Amanda Tobin
Amanda Tobin (born 8 June 1960), now known as Amanda Chaplin, is a former professional tennis player from Australia. She also competed as Amanda Tobin-Evans and Amanda Tobin-Dingwall. Biography Early years Tobin was born in Bathurst and grew up in the Illawarra, where she attended Oak Flats High School. She competed in all junior Grand Slam events, where she was a quarterfinalist at the US and Wimbledon girls singles event and a semifinalist at the French Open girls' singles. Rayni Fox (born May 24, 1956) is an American former tennis player who was active from the mid-1970s until the early 1980s. As a junior player Fox was a singles runner-up to Mima Jaušovec at the 1973 Orange Bowl. In 1974 she won the U.S. Girls' 18s national singles title. Fox attended Rollins College for two years before turning pro in August 1975. During her career Fox played in all four Grand Slam tournaments. Her best result was reaching the doubles final at the 1977 French Open with Helen Cawley in which they were defeated in three sets by Regina Maršíková and Pam Teeguarden. Regina Maršíková (born 11 December 1958) is a retired tennis player from Czechoslovakia, present-day Czech Republic. Career Maršíková won the French Junior Championships in 1975. Carol Sherriff (born 20 October 1946) is an Australian former professional tennis player. Sherriff, a right-handed player from Sydney, is a daughter of tennis coach Ross Sherriff and younger sister of Gail Sherriff, better known as Gail Chanfreau. Anna-Marie "Bunny" Bruning (born September 5, 1957) is an American former professional tennis player. Bruning grew up in California and was active on the WTA Tour during the 1970s and 1980s. She competed in the main draws of all four grand slam tournaments and was runner-up in the All England Plate, Wimbledon Plate in 1976. Jenny Dimond (born 13 November 1955) is an Australian former professional tennis player. Dimond comes from a sporting family in the Illawarra, associated more with New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL). She is the daughter of rugby league international Bobby Dimond, who played for Western Suburbs. Her uncle Peter also played for Australia and Western Suburbs, while her cousin Craig played in the NSWRL, mostly for Cronulla.
