1976 Virginia Slims Championships
The 1976 Virginia Slims Championships were the fifth season-ending WTA Tour Championships, the annual tennis tournament for the best female tennis players in singles on the 1976 WTA Tour, 1976 Virginia Slims circuit. The 16 best players, based on points average, qualified for the tournament provided they had played at least six tournaments. The singles event consisted of an elimination round and the eight winners were subsequently divided over two round robin groups (Gold and Orange). The winners of each group played each other in the final and additionally there were play-off matches for third, fifth and seventh place. The tournament was held from April 12 through April 17, 1976 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. 1976 WTA Tour
The 1976 WTA Tour consisted of a number of tennis tournaments for female tennis players. It was composed of the newly streamlined version of the Virginia Slims Circuit, was now an 11-week tour of the United States, and the Woman's International Grand Prix. The 1976 tour was the first full season using the official ranking system and these rankings were used to determine acceptance into the tournaments. Ann Kiyomura
Ann Kiyomura-Hayashi (born August 22, 1955) is a retired American professional tennis player. She is from San Mateo, California. Kiyomura played on the WTA Tour from 1973 to 1984. She played in 11 US Opens, reaching the fourth round in 1978. In 1973, she won the Wimbledon junior singles title, beating Martina Navratilova. In 1975, she won the Wimbledon women's doubles title, playing with Kazuko Sawamatsu. She reached the final of the Australian Open women's doubles in 1980. Kiyomura played in 1981 for the short-lived Oakland Breakers of World Team Tennis (WTT). Anne Guerrant (born November 28, 1948), also known as Mona Anne Guerrant, is an American retired professional tennis player. Guerrant was the winner of four singles titles in Portland, South Florida, and in Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand. She won many doubles titles on the pro tour with several different partners including Ann Kiyomura and Kerry Reid with whom she won the Australian Open doubles title in 1977.
