American Soccer League (1933–1983)
The American Soccer League has been a name used by four different professional soccer sports leagues in the United States. The second American Soccer League was established in summer 1933 following the collapse of the original American Soccer League, which lasted from 1921 until spring 1933. The new league was created on a smaller scale and with smaller budgets. This league existed until over-expansion and financial limitations led to its collapse in 1983. Two successor leagues later operated. History In the fall of 1933, the second American Soccer League was established, surviving until 1983. Like the original ASL, this league operated primarily in the Northeastern United States for much of its existence. Jimmy Rolland
Jimmy Rolland was a Scottish football forward who spent four seasons in the American Soccer League. He was the 1978 league leading scorer and MVP. In 1974, he signed for Northwich Victoria from Buxton. In his first season for Northwich, he scored 45 goals in 56 games; only two other Northwich players have better records in the club's history. However the lure of the growing football scene in the USA saw him sign for the Los Angeles Skyhawks in the American Soccer League. Despite being on the LA Skyhawks' books, he returned to Northwich in 1976, scoring a vital goal in the club's best modern-time FA Cup run. In the same season, his team, LA Skyhawks won the league championship and Rolland was the team and league's second leading scorer. In 1978, he led the league with 17 goals in 24 games, leading to his selection as league MVP. David Chadwick (footballer)
David Edwin Chadwick (born 19 August 1943) is an English retired professional footballer/soccer player, who played as a wing-forward, before a career coaching in the United States. He was born in Ootacamund, India. Playing career Chadwick began his career as a junior with Southampton, and became the youngest player to appear for their reserves on 31 October 1959, aged 16 years 73 days. He turned professional in October 1960 and made his first-team debut on 4 November 1961, at home to Bristol Rovers in place of the injured Terry Paine. His six years at the Dell were spent in the shadow of Paine and John Sydenham and as a result he only made 25 league appearances for The Saints, in which he scored once. In July 1966 he moved to Middlesbrough, costing the Ayresome Park side £10,000, and slotted straight into the side, making his Boro debut on 20 August against Colchester United. Zygmunt Józef Anczok (born 14 March 1946 in Lubliniec) is a former Poland, Polish Association football, footballer who played as a left-sided defender, who was an Olympic champion for Poland national football team, Poland in the 1972 Summer Olympics. His biggest success came in 1972 when he won the Polish cup as well as appearing in several Polish international matches. His international career began in 1965 when he played against Scotland national football team, Scotland. Ken Fogarty (born in Manchester, England) is a (naturalised) American soccer coach. Fogarty was Head Coach and Technical Director of the Cayman Islands national team from 1993 to 1994 and from 1996 to 1998. Professional career Fogarty began his professional career with Stockport County at the age of seventeen. He then moved to the United States to play for the Los Angeles Skyhawks of the second American Soccer League (ASL) in 1976, the year they won the ASL Championship. He returned to England to play for Stockport County until returning to the US in 1979 to play for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League (NASL). He remained with the Strikers through the end of the 1983 season. When the Strikers moved north to Minnesota, Fogarty went with the team for the final NASL season in 1984.
