1975 VFA Season
The 1975 Victorian Football Association season was the 94th season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the 15th season of second division competition. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Geelong West Football Club, after it defeated Dandenong in the Grand Final on 21 September by 28 points; it was the first and only Division 1 premiership won by Geelong West in its time in the Association. The Division 2 premiership was won by Brunswick; it was Brunswick's first premiership in either division since 1938. Geelong West Football Club
The Geelong West St Peters Football Club was an Australian rules football club that last competed in the Geelong Football League (GFL) from 1989 until the end of the 2016 season. Prior to its merger with St Peters Football Club in 1989, the club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1963 until 1988. Geelong West, nicknamed the 'Roosters', wore white and red during its time in the Association. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, the Roosters merged with co-tenants Geelong West Sports Club to form a new entity, Geelong West Giants. Williamstown Football Club
The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. History The Williamstown Football Club was formed in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. The club was initially considered a junior club, before being granted senior status in 1884. Starting in 1884, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association. Williamstown's original colours were black and yellow. Northcote Football Club
Northcote Football Club (/ˈnoːθ.kət/), nicknamed The Dragons, was an Australian rules football club which played in the VFA from 1908 until 1987. The club's colours for most of its time in the VFA were green and yellow and it was based in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote. The 1972 Victorian Football Association season was the 91st season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the twelfth season of second division competition. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Oakleigh Football Club, after it defeated Dandenong in the Grand Final on 24 September by 44 points; it was Oakleigh's sixth and final Division 1 premiership. The Division 2 premiership was won by Geelong West, which went undefeated through the season with an overall record of 20–0, becoming the first team since in 1918 to complete a perfect season; overall, it was the club's third Division 2 premiership. Alan Mannix
Alan Mannix (born 9 May 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Footscray Mannix, a wingman and half forward, was 17 years old when he debuted for Footscray in the 1965 VFL season, after coming to the club from Crib Point. Although he never played a VFL final, he was a member of the Footscray team that won the night premiership in 1967. He celebrated his 100th league game in 1971, against Fitzroy, but was injured in the third quarter and required an operation for a lacerated kidney. VFA Following his eighth and final VFL season in 1972, Mannix left to play in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Mannix went to Coburg with a clearance, paying the $500 transfer fee out of his own pocket. Derek King (Australian Footballer)
Derek King (7 September 1948 – 28 April 2014) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1960s. King came into the St Kilda senior side after making his way up from the thirds but couldn't establish himself in the VFL. A rover, he played briefly in Western Australia with Swan Districts before joining Oakleigh in the Victorian Football Association. He played his best football at Oakleigh, winning two Association best and fairest awards: the first division's J. J. Liston Trophy in 1975, and then the second division's J. Field Trophy in 1977, when he polled a record 67 votes. he also placed second by a single vote for the Liston Trophy in 1976, and third in 1970. Eddie Melai
Eduard Herbert Melai (28 February 1941 – 28 April 2004) was an Australian rules footballer most notable for his career with the Dandenong Football Club in the Victorian Football Association during the 1960s and 1970s. Melai played fifty games with reserves in the Victorian Football League during the early 1960s, and was part of Geelong's 1963 reserves premiership team, but he did not play a senior game for the club. He was cleared to , and played seven senior matches there during the 1964 season. In 1965, Melai crossed to Dandenong in the Victorian Football Association without a clearance. Travis Payze
Travis Irving Payze (2 July 1946 – 1 September 2006) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League. Debuting for St Kilda against Collingwood in the 1966 second semi-final, Payze came off the bench and booted 3 goals. He was also named on the bench two weeks later in the Saints' first premiership side. A lively forward, Payze had played only 12 games in his first four and a half seasons at the Saints, before he started to establish himself in the side as a ruck-rover. Warwick Yates
Warwick Yates (born 24 April 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Yates, a ruckman from Lorne, played senior football at Geelong for three seasons. He played 21 league games, 11 of which came in the 1971 VFL season. In 1974 he began playing for Geelong West in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and would go on and play over 200 games for the club. He was a member of Geelong West's 1975 premiership team and captained the club in the 1977 season. Yates won his only club best and fairest in 1979. Geelong West made the grand final that year, which Yates missed after getting injured before the preliminary final. It was reported that he broke "a leg while chopping firewood". Appointed captain-coach in 1980, Yates led the club to the Division 1 preliminary finals and had a strong individual season with an equal sixth placing in the J. J. Liston Trophy.
