1975 Niuean General Election
General elections were held in Niue on 26 April 1975. Background The new constitution approved in a 1974 referendum provided for a 21-member Assembly consisting of a Speaker and 20 elected members. Fourteen of the members were elected from single-member constituencies based on the 14 villages, and six from an island-wide constituency.Niue elections

Campaign

A total of 15 candidates contested the island-wide seats. Eleven of the fourteen village constituencies had only one candidate, who was returned unopposed.

Niue
Niue (, ; niu, Niuē) is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, northeast of New Zealand. Niue's land area is about and its population, predominantly Polynesian, was about 1,600 in 2016. Sam Pata Emani Tagelagi
Sam Pata Emani Tagelagi (29 December 1935 – 10 September 2011) was a Niuean politician and elder. Tagelagi served as the first Speaker of the Niue Assembly from 1976 to 1993. Biography From 1958 until 1963, Tagelagi worked as an employee of the New Zealand Internal Affairs and Island Territories Department. He later served as the head of inland revenue, Niuean customs comptroller, and treasurer. Aside from his long tenure as Niue's first Speaker, Tagelagi was also a member of many Niuean government committees. He served actively on the Alofi village council until his death in 2011. Within business, he served as the Niue Development Bank's general manager and owned an accounting firm. Sam Pata Emani Tagelagi died from a long illness at his home in Alofi, Niue, on 10 September 2011, at the age of 76. Tamakautoga
Tamakautoga is one of the fourteen villages within the Pacific Ocean island nation of Niue. Tamakautoga is located in the southwestern portion of the island and borders the villages of Avatele, Hakupu, and Niue's capital, Alofi, meeting all three at a quadripoint. The village's population at the 2017 census was 160, up from 136 in 2011. This number has fallen significantly from the 19th century which was reported to be 275 in an 1899 mission census. Tamakautoga is represented by Andrew Funaki in the Niue Assembly. The climate of Tamakautoga is classified as a tropical rainforest under the Köppen climate classification system. Namukulu is one of the fourteen villages of Niue. With a population of 11 (2017 census), it is the smallest village on the island. Mutalau
