1975 Canada Games ...
The 1975 Canada Winter Games were hosted in Lethbridge, Alberta from 11–23 February 1975. Despite being hosted by Lethbridge, the games were held in 12 communities in southern Alberta spread out over 34,000 km2 (13,127 sq mi). More than 4,000 local volunteers helped with the event. The Canada Games caused improvements to sporting events throughout the region, including the construction of the $4 million Canada Games Sportplex. Lethbridge
Lethbridge ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. With a population of 101,482 in its 2019 Alberta municipal censuses, 2019 municipal census, Lethbridge became the fourth Alberta city to surpass 100,000 people. The nearby Canadian Rockies, Canadian Rocky Mountains contribute to the city's warm summers, mild winters, and Chinook wind, windy climate. Lethbridge lies southeast of Calgary on the Oldman River. Lethbridge is the commercial, financial, transportation and industrial centre of southern Alberta. The city's economy developed from drift mining for coal in the late 19th century and agriculture in the early 20th century. The Canada Games are a strictly amateur multi-sport event held in Canada biannually, alternating between Summer and Winter editions. Athletes enter the Games representing each of their respective 13 provinces or territories. The first Games were held as part of Canada's Centennial Year Celebrations in 1967. ENMAX Centre
The ENMAX Centre (formerly Canada Games Sportsplex) is a 5,479-seat multi-purpose arena, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It features a full-size ice rink, and a walking track. An outdoor sports field, with capacity for 2,000 people, is no longer adjacent to the center, it was made into a parking lot. In 1997, the Servus Sports Centre (formerly the Lethbridge Soccer Centre) was built directly south. It was built to host the 1975 Canada Games and is home to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, of the WHL. The facility has hosted concerts, three-ring circuses, multicultural events, national curling championships, basketball events, banquets and skating events.
