1974 Railway Cup Hurling Championship
The 1974 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 48th staging of the Railway Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1927. The cup began on 27 January 1974 and ended on 18 March 1974. Leinster were the defending champions. On 18 March 1974, Leinster won the cup following a 2-15 to 1-11 defeat of Munster in the final. This was their 15th Railway Cup title overall and their fourth title in succession. The Leinster Council is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association sports of hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster. Railway Cup Hurling Championship

John Connolly (hurler)
John Connolly (born 14 June 1948) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-forward for the Galway senior team. Born in Leitir Móir, County Galway, Connolly first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Mary's College, Galway. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 1967 championship. Connolly went on to play a key role for Galway for more than a decade, and won one All-Ireland medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Connacht inter-provincial team at various times, Connolly won one Railway Cup medal in 1980. Kieran Purcell
Kieran Purcell (born 1945 in Windgap, County Kilkenny, Ireland) is an Irish retired sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Windgap and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1971 until 1977. Playing career Club Purcell played his club hurling with his local Windgap club. He enjoyed some success but he never won a senior county title. Inter-county Purcell first came to prominence as a member of the Kilkenny minor hurling team in the early 1960s. He found it difficult to nail down a place on the team, however, he did enjoy some Leinster and All-Ireland successes as a substitute. Purcell later joined the Kilkenny under-21 team, however, it was Wexford who dominated the early years of the provincial championship. Paudie Fitzmaurice
Paudie Fitzmaurice (born 16 November 1949) is a hurler from Killeedy in County Limerick, Ireland, who featured in Limerick hurling teams of the 1970s. Fitzmaurice was part of the Limerick county hurling team which won the All-Ireland in 1973,) as well as in the 1974, 1980 and 1981 teams. He was captain when Limerick won the 1981 Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final. He is a two-time National League winner, and finished as top scorer when captaining Maynooth College to victory in the Fitzgibbon Cup in 1974. His achievements as a player were recognised in 1984 when Fitzmaurice received an All-Star award. Fitzmaurice continued to play competitive hurling for his native Killeedy until 1996. Charlie McCarthy (hurler)
Charles McCarthy (born 1946) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Cork county team. Born in Tower Street, Cork, McCarthy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Sullivan's Quay CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor teams as a dual player, before later joining the under-21 hurling side. He made his senior debut during the 1965 championship. McCarthy immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won five All-Ireland medals, nine Munster medals and four National Hurling League medals. Francis Loughnane (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a wing-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Loughnane made his first appearance for the team during the 1968 championship and became a regular player over the course of the following decade. Éamonn "Ned" Rea (May 1944 – 22 November 2021) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler who played as a full-forward for the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior team. Eddie Keher
Edward Peter Keher (; born 14 October 1941) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Keher first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He made his senior debut in the 1959 championship. Keher went on to play a key part for Kilkenny over several seasons, and won six All-Ireland medals, ten Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals.
