1974 Australian Open – Women's Singles
Evonne Goolagong Cawley, Evonne Goolagong defeated Chris Evert in the final, 7–6, 4–6, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1974 Australian Open. It was her first Australian Open title and third Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major title overall, following three consecutive runner-up finishes at the tournament. Evonne Goolagong Cawley
Evonne Fay Goolagong Cawley (née Goolagong; born 31 July 1951) is an Australian former world No. 1 tennis player. Goolagong was one of the world's leading players in the 1970s and early 1980s. At the age of 19, she won the French Open singles and the Australian Open doubles championships (the latter with Margaret Court). She won the women's singles tournament at Wimbledon in 1971. In 1980, she became the first mother to win Wimbledon for 66 years. Goolagong went on to win 14 Grand Slam tournament titles: seven in singles (four at the Australian Open, two at Wimbledon and one at the French Open), six in women's doubles, and one in mixed doubles. She represented Australia in three Fed Cup competitions, winning the title in 1971, 1973 and 1974, and was Fed Cup captain for three consecutive years. Karen Krantzcke
Karen Krantzcke (1 February 1946 – 11 April 1977) was an Australian tennis player. She achieved a world top ten singles ranking in 1970. In her short career, she made the quarterfinals or better at each of the four Grand Slam championships in both singles and doubles. She also won the Australian Open in doubles, and assisted Australia to victory in the Federation Cup. At the age of 31, Krantzcke died from a heart attack while jogging. Early career Krantzcke, a tall right-handed player, achieved much junior success including winning the Australian junior singles title in 1966. Jill Schwikert (born May 19, 1954) is an American former professional tennis player. Schwikert is a native of Las Vegas and turned professional in 1972 after graduating high school. She played a lot of doubles with twin sister Joy and the pair were quarter-finalists at the 1974 Australian Open. Helen Gourlay Cawley (''née'' Gourlay; born 23 December 1946) is a retired tennis player from Australia. Personal Helen Gourlay was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. She married Richard Leon Cawley in January 1977, and married William Timothy Cape in October 1986. Kiyoko Nomura (17 November 1954 – 17 February 2016) was a Japanese former professional tennis player. Nomura, a multiple medalist at the 1978 Asian Games, represented the Japan Federation Cup team from 1978 to 1981. She was the singles winner at the All Japan Championships in 1979 and 1981, as well as a five-time national champion in doubles. Christine Matison (born 29 October 1951) is an Australian former professional tennis player who reached the semi-finals of the 1978 Australian Open as a qualifier.
